Side Skirt Scrape
Hi guys,
Just noticed something that more or less broke my heart. Apparently previous owner of the car has scraped the right side skirt of the car. I'm annoyed that I didn't see this before, despite me checking the condition of the car fairly closely. It's almost as if it's invisible but a closer glance reveals otherwise. Honestly, I'm surprised I did not notice it earlier despite the fact I washed the vehicle myself. You can barely see the damage in the pictures but in person and up close, it's fairly obvious. I've attached some pictures to help you guys get a better idea: It's very difficult to see, but as someone who likes to keep a spotless vehicle, this has really bummed me out and I blame myself for not looking more carefully previously. I realize it might seem hard to believe that I missed this even when I washed the car, but it is how it is. Can I look to have this fixed or is this something I'm stuck with? I'll take more pictures later today in case you need. For reference, it's an '09 Jet Black 328i sedan. Thanks in advance. |

Depending on how deep the scrapes are you may be able to buff them, but if they're too deep you'll have to have them repainted. Most places would be able to spot repair that pretty easily if you can get them to do it.

You could buy replacement side skirts and install them yourself or have them installed. They go for like $300-$400 on Tischer
Or go to a body shop and get an estimate on how much to buff it out |

How deep is it? I'd probably just check with a body shop or try to get it buffed as others have mentioned. Sorry to hear that though bro.

Hard to tell from your pictures. When I purchased my car I didn't notice that my side skirt was also scraped but luckily it wasn't very deep and I was able to buff it out easily. Good luck!

Here's a better picture of the damage in question. Apologies for quality as it's from my phone.
View post on imgur.com I would attach it here but the image size would mess up the Forums. |

You can have it sanded in that area smooth and then sprayed with flex adhesion promoter. "Bulldog" brand. The entire piece will have to be scuffed , the spot sprayed with paint ( on top of the adhesion promoter) , and then the total piece re-cleared.

I have gouge damage on both of my sideskirts. Gonna try to fix it myself by sanding it all down, whatever bondo (I'll read more on it and choose accordingly) and rattle can it with some color match paint. Not planning on repainting the whole sideskirts, just the section that was damaged and then use some blending solvent for the clear. Hopefully it'll all buff to look well enough.
http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Automotive...ords=bmw+paint http://www.amazon.com/Aerosol-Spot-B...+clear+solvent Actually got this for the blending solvent http://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/...gi?ShowItem=49 and the rattle to paint match I got also came from paintscratch.com. But I have used paint from that amazon one as well and it matched my jetblack paint perfectly. It'll be somewhat of a learning experience. That area is small and less critical of everything having to come out perfect. |
