Cherry Turbos (Ontario, Canada) Upgrade for the 335i N54

Hello everyone!

So anyways in another thread I posted that I may have a problem with my turbos, so I have de-modded my car and now it is back to stock to go back to the dealer.

But in the meanwhile I would like to upgrade them at a local shop, so I used the almighty Google and found two shops that work on turbos, one is based in Toronto and there was allot of mixed comments on their work, but Cherry Turbos had allot of good reviews on the web(turbo forums) and people I spoke to (he has over 20 year experience) and they are based in St. Thomas north of London, Ontario.

So I gave Herman (the owner and Turbo tech) a call and spoke to him about upgrading the turbos and getting more power out of them.

Needless to say he is very excited to take on this project and I learned that he use to own a 2002 tti BMW, he always liked BMWs, so that alone made him my best friend!! LOL

So I went and bought two used turbos for Herman to work his magic on and set an appointment with him to see the car and test drive it.

When I arrived at his shop, he was surprised that the turbos are so small, and he tell me that Volvo uses the same turbo, (he showed me one and they looked almost the same) but the ones that are on the N54 are better built, which I was glad to hear even thou we still have problems with them.

So now this is where we are at, Herman wants to start with see how big of a turbine wheel, and compressor wheel, that he can fit in the turbos, then to the bearing and lastly the waste-gate, so he is going to do a lot of research, so in about one to two weeks he will get back to me with a game plan for the upgrade.

So we are both excited about this project and I will keep you guy informed about what is happening.

In the meantime I have pics of the turbos that are going to be used and the shop the work is going to be done in.

Good luck. Question though. Would this require you to update the electronics as well? Damn computer engines!@

Yes you would need to upgrade the ecu. Both Vishnu and BMS offer that tuning as well as some flash tuners.

That's some old school machinery. I'd bet that Bridgeport is circa 1968!

Yes there are tuners out there that will work with the upgraded turbos. (see below)

If it's not broken, don't fix it! LOL

I am sure he has some modern equipment, there was a room I didn't get a chance to go into because he was dealing with some customers in it.

Thanks bros, I don't think he installs, his shop is small, but he is working on a Suzuki turbo race bike, I will ask him when I get a chance.

If cherry turbos can make this the best upgrade cost to the many of us out here I bet you will have a lot of people making the upgrade I will defiantly be a customer!!
