I-drive - Streaming music from the mobile phone via blue tooth
Hi, wondering if anyone managed to stream music from a paired mobile phone on the new I-drive (the one w hard drive storage for music)? My paired phone works perfectly for calls, but I can not have my music collection in the phone to be played via blue tooth (yes I can use the aux port and also export through the usb port but wanted to be able to stream via blue tooth if possible). Txs in advance for any answers or thoughts you may have.

I use it all the time with my iPhone 4, works great. The only issue is you need to use the iPhone's iPod controls as far as picking a playlist goes (cannot use I-Drive controls). You can use the steering wheel controls to advance or replay a song though.

Quicker than what? If you are saying quicker than the audio in then most likely, yes it will use a little more battery. Though when I use either I generally have my phone charging so I can't say for sure.

And how does one select the phone from which music is being streamed on idrive? Where does the phone show as an option (such as radio, cd, music collection, aux)? Or does it just play automatically once music is being played (like idrive switches to a call once someone calls the paired phone)?

Bluetooth audio streaming is only available on cars with the combox which started production September 2010. So you need a 2011.5 for this function.

blackberry music gateway
get a blackberry music gateway. hooks up to usb and audio jack in center console. I have an Iphone 4 and it syncs flawlessly. When a phone call comes through it automatically switches to phone mode using bluetooth.
This device costs about $30 - $35 at Amazon. And you can hook it up to your stereo at home so you have music streaming from your smartphone. |

I have done this too. It is awesome, it hooks up faster then oe BT and it is flawless! edit: and any noise that comes out of your iphone/ipad or whatever will go through the car's sound system, streaming podcasts, pandora (I have not done this specifically), movies etc |

edit: nvm, just read it and it does and I ordered it paired with the USB cable. The question is, would the USB input on the center console power the unit or do I need a cigarette USB adapter?

I just got my Blackberry gateway yesterday and it's awesome. I'm using a Evo 4g and was streaming from the Grooveshark app. It should work with any audio, my phone thinks bluetooth headphones are attached so any music that would go to headphones are getting routed through the car's speakers
