I know, I was just expanding on how ridiculous this is. Anyway, since it's low risk of damage, and it's now selling for $150 below list price, the OP can't go wrong!

I wonder how many people actually buy this thing. They do, after all, have a chip for each and every car make and model. Even for 2011 cars. The console with the turn dial is identical for all of them and the hp and mgp claims are the same. I can't believe a scam like this is legal.

Dinan only offers an intake and exaust which only add 13 bhp. For about 3k which is definitely not worth it. |

and found this one. check it out. http://www.chipstalkers.com/0,3006,1...i-chip,00.html look at picture listed// *not actual item. love it. just be careful of the performance items you buy. and whoever does test these out, post with results. note: kindy want a knob to turn it to the MAX. "turn that CHIT UP".

We had a similar discussion in a Honda forum awhile back. There was a "chip" being sold on ebay that is basically a resistor that tricks the temperature sensor. People had all kinds of bad experiences with it.

but yea this can go either one of two ways, the OP installs it and it works as claimed, or he installs it, nothing happens, and he loses $60, and maybe his warranty. anyone wanna place bets?

If you willing to wait, it looks like Dinan will have a chip for N52 engines (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=197849).
I don't know if this is still true, but many years ago when I wrote an article on chips, cars didn't have to meet strict emissions requirements at full throttle. Therefore, chip makers could get more power out of the engine. I think they can also get more power across the entire rev band by moving the performance/fuel consumption balance more towards performance. Most enthusiasts are willing to consume more fuel to get more power. BMW designs most of their cars, especially their lower end cars, to please a wide range of people, including those that pay $5+ for gas. I'm sure their engineers could get more power out of the engines if they were asked to increase performance and not worry about fuel consumption. Therefore, I think Dinan and other tuners will be able to get more power out of the N52 engine by using these and other methods. |
