Clean air progress can be painful to the early adopters. And costly for the D owners. The rest of the world may be escaping the piper for now, but they will pay one way or another eventually.

It will catch up eventually everywhere. It is already in Europe and all manufactures have to comply with new law. All will take is few big fines to those who have removed theirs to make you think twice before you do it.

Here where I live, Diesels has to have DPF by law.
The car will not pass inspections every second year without it. If you are stopped and called in for inspections, and it is discovered that the filter is removed, you will get a big fine. No doubt about it. Despite that I have choosen to remove mine. At least for a while. I might put it on again.... Btw, Does any one know if it is possible to get a "high flow" DPF like you can get high flow catalytic converters for petrol cars?

I'm all for the DPF system to make our cars run cleaner (for the environment) but I just wish they placed the access to the urea tank in a more accessible area! Some of the diesel models from other car makers have it placed convinently right next to the gas tank.

Given how expensive the stock DPF is, a high flow one would be even more prohibitive. FWIW, the SCR cat is high flow, though.

So, after some work under the car today, I've determined that my SCR cat is clogged. Unbolted the DPF from the midpipe and let it run free, and all the power that was lost because of it seems to have returned. My issue before was there was no power at all, going up hills was a serious effort, and the car would continually go into limp. That no longer seems to be the case. Should be visiting a fab shop tomorrow to have the SCR cat removed and replaced with a straightpipe. As a side note, the car sounds beastly at the moment.

No limp mode so far, and as far as codes are concerned, there are 2 that don't have descriptions for themselves, so I'm unsure as to what they are.

maybe there's an OEM DPF and/or SCR from another vehicle/brand that could be made to work with our cars? It's technically not illegal if the system still functions properly.
What's the ID of the DPF or SCR pipe? |

Your issue got me to thinking if there were any dpf aftermarket options available so I did a quick search and came across this DPF from ASSO. I am not certain if it will work in a US spec car or if our DPF's are even the same - that would require further diligence. Out of curiousity I sent them an e-mail asking the question. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASSO-diese...f1f86a7a7#shId Last edited by cssnms; 05-07-2013 at 01:59 PM.. |
