99% of the hand wash places uses cotton towel (rather than microfiber towel) to wipe and dry your car. those towel leaves tons of micro-scratches on your car even when they are clean, and who knows if they are properly washed or not.

I wouldn't let anyone wash my car that isn't a qualified and experienced professional.

It takes great skill and care to wash and dry a car without scratching the paint. For example, if someone picks up a little grit on a sponge, mitt or towel, they can scratch your entire car.

It boils down to what your car means to you, how fussy you are and what color you have. If you are like most of us on this forum, your car means too much to hand the keys to someone that isn't going to be very careful with it. But if you are a "normal" car owner and you have a light color, you might get by with going to ordinary places.

I just use old t-shirts to wash my car. No scratches reported.

There is a Pronto Wash here in Irvine at The Spectrum. My wife and I were watching them work a few days ago and it was pretty funny. All the employees were obvious day laborers. They advertised a full detail starting at $30.

Personally, I'd trust my car more to a car wash robot at a gas station than these jokers. I wish the title of "Detailer" wasn't thrown around so easily...

i stopped going to car washes. period. no matter how much you pay them, you car is ALWAYS half-assed.

on top of that, they use questionable chemicals and nasty-ass rugs that just spread the dirt all over the place, instead of actually cleaning it. ever noticed your windows after those "car washes"? eeewww.

car wash = quantity over quality. you would be better off calling a mobile detailer.

My GOD man, how lazy can you be? Wash your own car and enjoy it. The only thing that should touch your paint is a real sheepskin wash mitt, alternately rinsed in a 2nd bucket of clean water.

Anyone who cares so little about their car's finish to NOT wash it themself isn't going to find much (if any) help in this, the detailing area of the forum.

On the other hand, you could just trade in the BMW for a Mercedes and get it over with.
