Extreme heat remedies

Its going to be between 100-120 degrees F until late October or so and I wanted to ask some of you car gurus here for ideas regarding what to do to make these brutal conditions a little easier on my car.
Im going to be getting a larger FMIC next month, I've turned off the meth for now, with the idea that less boost will be better for this type of punishing heat, I put the hood up after parking in my 150 degree garage to help disperse the heat from the engine bay, keep the back seats down and the windows/sunroof always cracked to not boil the methanol in my tank in the trunk, and am scheduled to get the coolant flushed, TC fluid replaced, and oil replaced (motul 300v) to make sure that some of the fluids are fresh.

What else does anyone do for these cars (that seem to run extremely hot independent of ambient temperature) during horribly hot conditions to improve longevity or mechanical functionality? Any and all useful input is welcome, thanks in advance.

this might be out of the norm- but how about water injection? empty out your meth tank, run 100% distilled water. dial back the injection mode or amount, however jb4 does it. that's what i would do, at least.

Thanks Bryce. This might be fun to try out. I'll have to learn more about how to do this appropriately so that I dont cause more harm than good. From what little I understand about other older turbo platforms, this is somewhat common with people in high heat conditions

it really would go along way in keeping your IAT's down. you wouldn't have to worry about meth boiling, igniting, or whatever. water injection on suby's is pretty big.

if you're running the jb4, just call or email terry and ask him for a map or settings suggestion for 100% water injection. all the water should evaporate in the charge pipe.

Is it hot in AZ? This is what I do:
run about 55/45 meth/water... no worries on boiling if tank is in the trunk. I also shield the line with rubber hose.
Non meth map: 12psi peak boost tapered to 11 with a bunch of ignition correction
Meth map: 14.5psi peak tapered to 13ish around 6500rpm / about 2deg ignition correction in the mid-range to just a slight adv in the top end

I also start injecting meth at 5psi with 100% by 12psi. Car runs great even with 115deg temps. I error on the conservative side as you can see.

Just completed sealing the garage, so I can open the door for AC when working on the car... very nice.

I used to run about 75/25 meth/distilled water and would constantly experience flow issues with my methanol kit even a couple months ago when it was only 90s. I figured it was due to the extreme temperatures. I am now only running about 45/55 meth/distilled water and haven't had any issues. But I would vote for running -30 degree windshield wiper fluid (~33% meth) or just mixing your own low content meth/distilled water if you normally do that. JB4 max cool mode too!

I'd upgrade the fluids while your in there. Make sure the trans and diff fluids are synthetic. I prefer to swap the coolant with a 30/70 mix of coolant to water with one bottle of Water Wetter. A vented CF hood is nice, too.

Also, don't beat on the car for extended periods. I don't know what the terrain is like out there, but if you have long hills try to avoid boosting and passing traffic the whole way up the hill. Keep an eye on the temp gauge. Have an oil cooler yet?

I also like to drive slowly in the last couple miles before getting home. It's all low speed neighborhoods anyway, but keeping air flowing through the radiator while the engine is barely making any power is a nice way to bring temps down before parking the car, where it'll have zero airflow.

HTH and glad I don't live there!

he'd need the jb4 cps module, not sure he's running that.

but yes, ignition correction at these temps would be very beneficial

"hot" might depend on one's perspective I guess. I'm sensing a facetious tone however.

Methanol boils at 149 F. When its 115 outside, a sealed car can reach that temperature after the car sits in the parking lot for 8 hours while I'm at work. I typically run no less than 80/20 meth to water because I'm running pre and post turbo and have the intake cm3s pre-filter in each snorkel and more than 20% water is too much pre-filter.

Good idea to seal the garage though, I have a swamp cooler that I usually put in there when I need to spend time in the garage, but it still struggles to keep things "comfortable" (also a perspective sensitive matter)

I'll get a CPS module soon for this.

My xi isnt sport package and doesnt have an oil cooler, which is bad but since I dont track it more than just a few drag strip nights per year, I'm not worried about the oil temps. I change the oil on 5-7k mile intervals and rarely do I ever see oil temps hitting the 250F mark, even after extended periods of aggressive driving. In Mexico of course...

The i has a factory oil cooler that kicks on after 5 minutes of perfectly tame driving. I have been using it for most of the daily driving to not stress out the xi any more than I always already do...

To the top for any ideas from those that didnt notice this thread this afternoon when it was posted...

Maybe tubing to route the AC from the back vents to the engine bay

Cryo2 Intercooler sprayer! From extreme heat to extreme cold! Lol realistically this would be terrible for DD/Anything other then a dedicated track car. But it looks pretty awesome.
