Was browsing on Instagram and saw this fabricator making custom intake manifolds for the n54. Claims 25-30hp gains.

How reliable is this claim? Is the intake manifold worth 'upgrading'?

Uhh, I'd like to see proof of that. Most intake manifold projects I've seen attempted got cut off for the low demand, and/or fact that they don't really gain you much power, by themselves.

I call BS on 30hp claim more like 8hp unless you are running a huge single turbo then maybe 12hp

If you could gain that much power from IM, multiple companies would have come out with one, but what most have realized after creating a prototype and saw single digit gains but at a cost of 2-3K they abandoned the project completely,

But if you look at downpipes and intercoolers every company comes out with 2-3 different types and then keeps making revisions because that were the gains are at a reasonable price point.

My apologies, guy said 25-30hp gains with FBO, will edit OP.

So I guess it's just for show then.

Theres already a thread on this

Huge gains have been seen on other platforms (like 50+ on rb/jz etc) so there's no reason a good one won't see gains for us.

These guys have been posted here before. My opinion, there's a reason the big guys (ER, etc.) aren't making one. I just don't think there much to gain, for a pretty expensive part i'm sure. By itself I mean, unless it offers direct port injection for meth, or nitrous I guess.

HPF were building one, but it fell off the wagon for some reason. I'm looking into that still.

HPF's fell off because they went out of business... They were most likely building theirs strictly to accommodate for their fuel setup like they had for the e46's. I doubt there's any performance to be had from the manifold alone. If so, not likely any amount worth the cost or added weight!

Who says those manifolds were designed as well as ours? Ours may already be pretty damn efficient from the factory. Not to mention, most guys under 8-900+ didn't see a cost vs reward on the 1500+ dollar manifolds for the 2jz.

Flow sims have shown a heavy cyl 3/4 bias

And cyl 1's runner is crushed to about 1/3, which could have a bit to do with the bank 1 AFR issues some people see at high power

N54 manifolds aren't TERRIBLE but they're far from perfect for sure.

Re:2j manifolds.. Found a few threads on supraforums of a manifold swap only going from 650 odd to 700whp

Not saying the n54 would see similar gains, just that there SHOULD be some.

Looks are a pretty good point tho imo

Spool gains too (minor)

Anyone with more money than sense with an optimized manifold, worked head and vargas 2+ (or whatever rb does with the supermegaextreme rb's) would likely be a 700whp setup.
