Break down:

E36 -
Wheel base: 270cm
Width: 169.9cm
Length: 443.2cm
Curb weight: 3000lbs?

E82 -
Wheel base: 266cm
Width: 174.8cm
Length: 436cm
Curb weight: 3100lbs?

E90-
Wheel base: 276cm
Width: 181.6cm
Length: 452cm
Curb weight: 3300lbs
There is nothing beneficial with extra weight, ever.

Also, Highly doubtful you'll make more power without being illegal. N52 w/o a 3 Stage Manifold versus a N51 w/a 3 Stage will make similar numbers with different torque curves. At least I think so.

Prep'ed E36 is 2850 lbs, My car is 2977 lbs. A decent FRS is around 2550-2625 lbs

Totally agree with the bold, but I can make up for power loss in the lower RPM region by running a higher gear ratio (is that allowed)

And while the BRZ is lighter, the E36 and the E82 still hold their own. The

BRZ is
Wheel base: 257cm
Width: 177.5cm
Length: 424cm

Can't change gear ratio, must maintain OE. I'm 3.23 rear for reference.

The E36 IMO is a pretty big underdog. It use to be "the car" but now especially with the BRZ it's hard to compete.

I know the E82 can hold it's own. I've proven it

So the BRZ is the car to beat in the class? And stock gear ratio required?

Hmm, this will be tougher than I thought.

Well see, that's the best thing about STX. A WRX and Golf Type R came 1st and 2nd this past weekend in Packwood.

While I won the Toledo Match Tour, with a BRZ and ITR in 3rd.

It's all over the place. But the BRZ is typically the favorite.

And yes, cannot change gears

A VW? Ugh, they are the bane of my existence, hate them all with a passion. I reject the results based on that.

I guess I need to get to work on what I'm planning.

The problem with weight and why tire to weight ratio is so critical is the UHP tires (RE71R and Rival S) can both obtain very high g loads but not for sustained periods of time and less time the more weight it has to sustain. As such, lightweight cars put less pressure on those limits and can hold that threshold longer than a heavier car.

I ran through my mental numbers of the cost of build. It's right at $10k. Really tells the investment both in picking the right car and putting the right modifications to work.......and then being able to drive it to its max.
