Show him my vid of me mullering a 310HP Vectra VXR at the pod! That can give him a good indication of the Denz performance!

£10k will be tricky - even £15k is pushing it.
Carlos' DXB was mapped to USS Nimitz levels of power and torque. But even standard, they iz wew nippy. |

Its whether he thinks the 35d is worth ponying up extra for, you know. The 30d seems a pretty solid horse too. J |

330d is a very very good car - you have the manual option, it's still very nippy and a fair bit better on fuel than the 335d. It's also a wee bit lighter.
BUT you get a lower rev limit, only one turbo so a more pronounced "flat" spot in the power delivery and a fair bit less power and a lot less torque. There have been countless arguments on here over how much faster a 335d is but there is a pretty big difference, especially at higher speeds. |

Can't say it feels flat after 1700rpm though. The 335d has about 20% more power which, just going by tech specs, 10% is attributable to higher torque (520Nm vs 570Nm-ish) and 10% is higher revs (peak power 4000rpm vs 4400 or so). The acceleration starts to get a bit slow at around 110mph and above 130mph you need a lot of road to accelerate. Obv this happened in Germany, not the UK.... I'm happy with a 330d, if I went up to a 5-series I think I'd want a 35d. |

I used to have an Arden blue VXR and couldn't fault it. It was completely standard and my 335i is much faster.
I don't agree with fwd being better than rwd in the wet as both have only 2 wheels to get the power down but one also has to use them wheels to steer. |

I think thats the main difference with the 335d, the top end. Over 100mph he 335d even in standard form is pretty relentless. Over 140 its still pulling. Does not stop untill 160+ Just a linear, very fast paced acceleration. Ill never forget the first time I went off the clock, it just didnt stop going. I kept expecting the ''Surge'' the slow, it never did.

ROFL You make it sound like an unhinged SAVAGE WEAPON yes. in red. and bold. I know I am considered within the bowels of BMW ownership as I drive a lowly 320d (*GASP* a facking 4 banger) so i cannot be included in the above bollockery. But i can confirm that i drive with my foot to the board, probably about 48% of the time. Obviously, this IS safe as I dont have 6 cylinders. Thank god. All within the confines of our speed limits of course. J |

What body style is he after in a 3 series , I assume a Coupe if he is coming from a VXR. The saloon would probably be a bit cheaper than Coupe but over here in NI any 335d is pretty hard to find.
Not out of the question I might be selling my E92 335d , Jan 07 with 36k miles and plenty of nice toys. Would need to stretch his budget a bit for it though but worth it, the 335d engine is superb and yes on paper not that much faster than a 330d but the twin turbo just makes it soooo effortlessly fast and if you do put in a bit of effort then it must be very fast !!! |

In a very un-scientific demonstration i was following Will in his 330d coupe and there wasn't much in it driving within the speed limit. Don't know if Will's running a map but i'm stock. As Carl says it starts to show its differences more at the top end. 330d is a very nice all rounder - 330i an absolute peach. |
