^No, sorry. My runcraps were worn and needed to be replaced before I touched the suspension. Switching to regular tires was one of the best things to help with handling. After I switched, the car immediately felt much sportier and more like a real BMW. I'm not scared of flat tires. In 15 years of driving I've only had 2, both of which were handled by calling AAA. Personally I hate runflats. It feels like driving on bricks.

I'm on Bilstein Sports & Eibach ProKits, and I love them. Great for daily driving, and a hugely improved stance and feel over stock.

Get Eibach pro-kit with Koni FSD and call it a day. That setup is going to be your best bet for comfort/performance without sacrificing ride quality and being intolerable for everyday use.

I had KW V2's on my car for several months and then took them off and went back to stock because of how terrible they made the ride quality. They're way too stiff for daily driving and if you aren't a track junkie then there is absolutely no need to spend all that $$$ on a set of coils.

I ran stock all season runflats the past few months with H&R coilovers. There ate no issues. However, ditching them and getting some different rubber is a vast improvement.

just FYI for the xi owners (since this is an xi thread) - the KONI FSD and the KW2's will not fit the xi's....you can get either Koni Yellows or KW1/KW3's

This sure is confusing. Is there a best setup for comfort and handling?


I have a '08 335xi coupe w/ 30k miles on it that I bought used. It's my DD in NYC - I never plan to take it to the track.

I've switched out the tires for continental, so no RFT's. 18"

The suspension is pretty lame, I was expecting more from a BMW. I can feel every single bump and at higher speeds the car tends to feel unstable and wobbly.

What's the recommendation for the best investment to improve the car's handling? I'd rather do it right and enjoy it for the next 30-50k miles.

Is there a good option for the xi? I want comfort and for the car to feel solid on the road - great handling.

I don't care about lowering the car - I just want better handling.

Also, where do I go to get the job done? NYC area please.

That is what I got installed this past weekend.
So far I like it. The lowered ride looks awesome, even on 17"s. The ride, on perfect roads its awesome. Handling is what it should have been. A lot less body roll, more traction, no floaty feeling, steering is more precise. Reminds me of my STI. On non perfect roads it dampens imperfections quite good, but it also amplifies some others. Some areas are dampened good, some are more bouncy. I'm running run flats too so that might also be the problem. The Koni have adjustable rebound. Ive read that on full soft they are near OEM, but better. One day Ill try adjusting them that way see how they feel.

I'm waiting for the honeymoon period to wear out so I can post a review. That plus I got a bad strut already. Blown within 10 miles. Probably a defect. Waiting to get replacement.

No, use the i springs. Rates work fine for the xi.

I matched them up with the bilsteins and am very pleased.

For people putting koni or other aftermarket strut.

Buy 2 rubber 1 1/2" caps from home depot in the plumbing area. Put these on the top the strut where the old strut dust cap used to be but doesn't fit anymore because of the adjustment screw. This will keep dust and water out and, in case the strut blows, it will keep strut oil from splattering all over the engine.

I measured
front:
13.5" from center of bmw cap to fender
about 1.5" gap
back:
13.25" from center of cap to fender
about 1" gap

This with 17" stock wheels and tires

I like the look. Its like what the 335i (non xi) looks like with the sports springs.

I'm guessing/wondering if these measurements would be different from the e90 versus e92 since the e92 stock suspension appears to be higher than the e90.

Another thing to do once you put the suspension on is to adjust the HID level. Drove the car last night and couldnt see anything. My HIDs were pointing too low.

Adjusted last night and it was so easy, a caveman could do it.

So far Im loving the new suspension. Had an interesting drive today where I had to nail it and move to the next lane. Car handled awesomely. Springs and struts are starting to settle down and soften up a bit, that means less jumpy.

The car still has this strange feeling when taking big pot holes. It feels like when a dog gets wet and shakes the water off. The rear feels this way when taking a hole. This was way more pronounced with the stock suspension though. Now its minor. Maybe its the car design, or the rest of the suspension parts (bushings, supports) that are too soft? I try and avoid holes etc, but sometimes its inevitable.

So what would be the best setup?

Car: 2008 e90/sedan 335xi sport package (48k miles)
Current Mods: FBO
Wheels: stock 17" Conti RFT's

Suspension upgrade seeking:
1) Since I'm living in NJ with teeth jarring rough winter roads, I want something that will make the drive less jarring (more comfortable). Every Feb/Mar I end up getting a busted tire and bent rims on the freeway.
2) Money is no object for suspension upgrade
3) At some point I'm planning to change out my stock wheels with Go Flat tires and 19" rims (and get an e60 spare tire kit for the trunk).
4) At some point I'm planning to go with a Big Brake Kit
5) I have no issues with getting the fenders rolled.
6) Don't care about ride height (Meaning I'm not interested in a slammed car, heck I don't mind raising the car up a little from stock... if it will give me more travel in the suspension to combat the potholes).


So far the only only setup I've heard that seems to match up with what I am looking for is the TC Kline?? Please advise if you have the TC Kline and are driving in the winter time of the North East USA. Thank you.
