Thaughts on Focal 100 KRS speakers upgrade

Right guys the next upgrade on my e92 will be the dead awful speakers in my car.
I'm not after crazy bass, i just want to be able to play loud/clear music, so in order to achieve this i am looking at the Focal 100 KRS speakers

What are your views? recommendations? this is just about in my budget, so i would not want anything which is going to cost more.

And also if i managed to modify the speakers in the below link, which are way cheaper, could that be another solution? because then i can use the remaining budget to purchase an amp, which i know is a must, even if i purchased the speakers in the link in my post before.

Depend on what is your preference and what are you crossovers?

We all are different and I like bright tweeters. They are 10/10 tweeters wise and woofers are more precise on lower volumes compared to Morel woofers. And credit goes to the material which they have used in cone making.
I can't fault them at all if I compare them to Morel hybrids.

Technically, if you are going to set your crossovers at 125Hz and above, they are excellent.

If you are planning to use xovers lower than 125Hz, then prefer morel hybrids though you will have to work around to fit morels in E92/ 93s.

They are top of the class in Focal speakers. Speakers in your second link is good to be used as central speaker in L7 / MS-8 setup or just rears.

HTH.

I would also look at the MB quart or the Gladen kit that is available.

+1 for the Gladen kit. Check out my write up a few days back in the technical section.

Wink

I had the standard BMW hifi before visiting some awesome chaps at AudioFile InCar (Bishops Stortford in Hertfordshire)

They strongly recommend Focal speakers and I went for there "Upgrade 1" costing £400 fitted. You'll see on there website this gets you the tweeters, mid range speakers and cross overs fitted with a bit of Dynamat behind the door cards. It took them 3hrs to fit and I was very impressed with AudioFile. They fit speakers to look 'factory' with the only visual diffence being the Kevlar showing through the tweeter grill! Gary / Dave really know what they are talking about with much of their business coming from the local BMW / Audi dealerships where the customers have bought a car requesting Audio to be fitted by these guys instead of the manufactures upgrades.

My opinion of upgrade 1 - Clarity is instantly better, however to get the full potential out of these Focal's I really do feel "Upgrade 2" is required which introduces an AMP and lets the standard subs (which are capable of producing as part of a good setup apparently) play as a sub rather than just another speaker!

I'm sure ill be upgrading to 2 as soon as iv worked out which mods to do when!

P.S. They also have a Demo car (New BMW X5) with the 3+ upgrade, Sounds AMAZING !

Very very good speakers for the price, but as we're all different, I found the tweeters too bright for my liking.

I think you had version 1. Krs 2 tweeters are a lot better and less brighter than ver 1.

Again depends on your priorities. A quick google search revealed Focal VS Gladen.
It may be very subjective but gives you some idea.
