Dsp questions
Thinking about a dsp. I have k2 powers focal powered by a JL 600/6 wanting to maximize and get the best out of my speakers. What should I get? I know the JBL MS-8 is old but I can get very good pricing on it. Also my friend said he really likes audio control stuff. Or should I sell my JL 600/6 and get something like the bimmertech pp82dsp? Thanks guys .

You can get a standalone DSP from a number of manufacturers if you want to keep your current amps. The Helix seems to be the most popular one currently .
If you were starting from scratch you might want to look at the Helix V8 or 6 dsp both of which have awesome to decent output power. Bimmertech offers you a canned tune with the 82dsp but its less power per channel than the JL. If you are willing to tune then I would go with a standalone Helix processor or V8 or 6dsp. MS8 no output power and you have to take what the auto tunes gives you. Last edited by ctuna; 05-05-2017 at 09:37 PM.. |

I guess it depends on how much you like audio and your
budget and which features you want to compromise on . |

Your link goes nowhere.
Generally there is the Bit 1 and the Bit 10 . Both are kind of old technology and the Bit 10 only has 5 channels and generally you would want at least 6 channels in a e90 dsp. |

Don't know look for reviews
fix is just a frequency flattening device similar to the cleansweep they use to offer. twk is a dsp but it looks like they want to you to buy the one of the fixes to feed it. I think the helix is the best for quality and control from what I have seen. Last edited by ctuna; 05-07-2017 at 02:29 AM.. |

If you want to keep your amp then go for a Helix DSP or similar.
The benefit of the helix DSP could be that eventual "DSP tuning" from Bimmertec could be applied in the Helix DSP (you should consider and ask them to supply this). Alternative you can swap the amp against a Helix PP62 (drives front / rear + underseat subs w the 6 ch build in amp). If you need 8 channels you can go the bimmertec or PP82 way. I consider the JBL to be old in this context and no longer up to play with the new HW & SW from many of the aftermarket DSP's out there now. Last edited by BMW3DK; 05-07-2017 at 02:34 PM.. If you can get a DSP with a car AND speaker specific tune, don't hesitate. Don't just buy a DSP blindly, it's almost like buying a helicopter, and not knowing how to fly it.

A true dream....
But depending where you live, I'm sure that you can find a skilled installer that can tune your DSP at your pleasure. JL Audio offer good training, so a trained JL dealer should be able to do the job against a few $$ I'm sure. :-) Chris |

The thing about the Helix is the number of Bands and adjustments
are much finer and there is already large user group and there tuning software is more highly developed. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...rVw6zjG6C5owjA The above is the first part of a 14 part series on tuning a DSP |

Oh - I know the Helix! So far I've installed 8 or 9 of the amplifiers and 2 of the DSP's :-)
Currently we have a PP86, a DSP and a PSix MK2 in our cars :-) :-) The only reason to recomend JL audio, is that they are good at training their dealers and offer a good tool do do RTA. // Chris Quote:

Whats the JL tool for RTA because I read there twk manual and the tools
don't seem to be there or on there site? Helix offers some pretty slick software , procedure and a calibration microphone and I don't see that on the JL site. Maybe there intention is to not let the DIYer do it. The microphone from helix is very expensive though. The one advantage the JL hardware has is the ability to mix Inputs for a center channel . I don't believe that's on the Helix. 6 dsp from helix looks really sweet for power and the high quality dsp. |

The JL tool is a dealer tool :-)
and don't spend the money on the Helix mic, you can buy a good USB mic from ebay and use this with the right SW The Helix can multiply channels for center - you configure this in the IO configuration page. and yes, the 6DSP is indeed a sweet amplifier :-) // Chris Quote:
