I guess some cars have tighter gaps at the top of the windshield than others.
1st try around I couldn't get the new trim to fit into the sides as well. I went as far as taking an x acto knife and cutting away at the inner trim so it would fit. After slicing too much and ruining the trim, I purchased another and re-read all the DIY.

The trim will fit into the sides!! You just have to start with the trim further in toward the center and slide it toward the side!! This is the only way it will fit. If you try to jam it into the sides, it's not going to fit. You must set the end of the trim in place from about a foot and 1/2 ft away from the end then slide... it will work.

just did this, was quite easy!
trick when putting in as eveyrone mentioned is to slot it in from the middle and then slide it in.
I found that the drivers side was the hardest to get in, so when i first started in the middle from the passenger facing side, it was impossible to get the driver side bit in...
So starting from the middle i popped in the driver side facing bit and slided it towards the driver side.

Hope that makes sense..

Just another checkin that this DIY works. For me, removal of the old metal piece was very easy if done starting on the driver side. Installation of the new piece the same, get the driver side hooked about 6" from the end then slide it over and just push down across the rest of the car.

Was a little bit difficult getting it to push down on the passenger side, I had to pull everything out and do the "hook it 6" from the end and slide it over". So at one point the piece looked pretty bent but I guess it's flexible.

Here are the pics I put together.

For those having trouble replacing the trim back, I used this to push it in.

Just did this. 30m tops. Make sure to remove all of the old glue. For a wooden pusher in I used a decent sized chop stick. Worked great. Started from drivers side corner and then worked down and then accross. Super easy. I did let it sit in the sun on a warm day which helped with the removal etc.
