Bilstein HD or Sports with Dinan Springs??
Hey guys,
I'm in the market for a very mild drop on my 328xi and have come across a number of good threads through searches. One setup I liked was the Dinan Stage 1/2. I am however uncomfortable with only replacing the rear shocks and keeping the stock fronts. Would it be feasible to use Bilstein HD or Sport shocks in conjunction with the Dinan Performance Spring set?? This is one setup I couldn't not find any info about when searching. Any advice/ insight would be extremely appreciated. Thanks! //Josh |

why not just buy the bilsteins and then get some other lowering springs?

I personally like the stance it gives, not quite as low as the Eibach Pro or H&R springs i've seen which is perfect for my purposes. Are there other springs that offer a similar drop in ride height while retaining good performance characteristics?

i thought the bilstein sports were designed to handle lowering springs whereas the HDs are made for stock heights

I would`nt be surprised if the Dinan springs are actually eibach or H&R springs. Maybe this is something you should consider because Dinan tends to
be very expensive. |

OP, you should go with Bilstein sports if you're pairing it with lowering springs. The struts are designed shorter compared to the HD. Also, unless you're getting those Dinan springs at a good price, you're better off with either getting Eibach or H&R sport springs.

Bilstein HD's: stock height up to a 1.00 - 1.25" drop
Bilstein Sports: 1.3" height reduction and lower Compression and Rebound graphs are identical (HD to Sport) on a shock dynamometer. Lastly, if it's necessary to go with the Sports don't forget to trim the rear bumpstops accordingly. The fronts won't apply as Bilstein uses an internal bumpstop. |

for your purposes, why dont you get some FSD's and be done with it? they can handle the springs and are top quality shocks.
koni yellows are a sportier option if you want the damper adjustability. |

It is my understanding that only the Koni FSD/ Yellow rears fit the XI, which is why Dinan only replaces the rear's with their custom valved Konis on the XI suspension setup kits. EDIT: FSD** Last edited by JSLev04; 06-02-2010 at 12:53 AM.. |

You're absolutely correct. Unless you go coilovers, the only strut/shock option you have is Bilstein Sports for XI. I don't think Bilstein makes the HD for the XI's and Koni doesn't have a full strut/shock application for XI either.
