Changing wheels/ tyre on a lease car? (another snow tyre thread!)

I noticed during the winter that the only way forward for rwd cars (literally!) was to get M&S tyres.

Thinking ahead as next winter I'll now have a rwd car, does anyone know if there is a need to inform the insurance company and/ or lease company if:

a) I get the standard tyres swapped for M&S at kwikfit / ATS or similar (retaining the originals for later refit.)

or

b) I get four same size wheels fitted with M&S and swap them myself as and when needed

Chances are the lease company wont pay for the tyres but other than that I see no problem.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I know the lease company will not pay but I'm going to try my luck with them on expenses!

Yes I wouldn't imagine the lease company would pay, I'm thinking of buying 2nd hand alloys and new tyres. At 2-3months per year the tyres may just last the four year lease.

On x's may be pushing it, good luck with that!

I asked my boss if I could get winter tyres for my current company car. It was a flat no. So when it snowed I said I couldn't get in. Simple.

OP - option B is the way, changing tyres onto the same wheels every 6 months is not good for tyres or your rims, you can always sell your second set when the car goes.

You'll want the winters on for 5 months a year really, early Nov to late March (mine are still on)

After 2 winters and 15K (and 400bhp) mine are literally as good as new, they wear so much less than summer tyres do in cold weather.

As long as you fit the approved sizes / oe wheels, you'll have no issue with leases co's or insurance.

doughboy, thanks for that I was leaning towards B but that's confirmed it.

ChrisE91, it is a good point about the company paying, but if its bad enough I'd want to stay at home even if I had a Landrover! I'm more concerned about getting home cos once you're out and about and it starts snowing you're on your own.
