Another successful installation (solution fo ACC)
Today I successfully installed TVANDNAV2GO module in my E90.
Well it was not that easy, it had few bumps, but in the end it was just perfect. Thanks to xcalibr & longtran for their install pictures, it gave me lot of courage to do it myself. Initially I did not understanding clearly the power (constant/ACC, where to get it) stuff, but during install I learned few things that I think I will share with you guys. PROVED THEORY: Fusebox fuses behave just like the accessory they support. i.e. IF a fuse is for home-link/PDC/sunroof then it will get current only in 'IGNITION' mode (when ignition is ON). While if fuse is for courtesy/dome lights then it will get current in 'RADIO/ACCESSORY' mode (when radio is turned ON). With this theory, we get the same result as what xclaibr gets using 'low voltage trigger and it solves longtran's 'dash power tap' handicap (TVANDNAV2GO unit, and hence the i-drive LCD screen, running only in 'IGNITION' mode). So the fuse I tapped for ACC is fuse 5 from the factory fuse diagram. And for +12V, I tapped fuse 47. RESULT: Your install is clean without splicing of factory wires for power purpose. Well my camera could not give me desired picture of my fusebox, so I am posting my markings on one of the posted picture of fusebox in another thread (hardwire V1 to fusebox). You know what would be amazing...If someone started a new thread with perfect DIY instructions including the wiring for power and sound with pics so I can print it out and bring it over the the Car electronics store and they would know what to do. Because this is getting way over my head.
Thanks and if anyone ever does this well.... your amazing and a God. ps. yes i already know there is a DIY out there that shows me how to install most of it.

Good job finding the fuse BMW06... I was looking for such a fuse when I was installing my sound system, but I didn't have the fuse-tap for the mini fuses, so I didn't bother checking any of them. I'll go out and verify that with a multimeter and then revise the DIY (part 1) so BenMW can have his "perfect" DIY.

In our car E90, single fuse do support multiple accessories, but I believe this fuse is for that only (or for the option that I dont have). But anyway I have added another 3 AMP fuse in addition to factory 7.5 AMP in that fuse-tap for conversion unit. So that should be fine. (Remember in that fuse tap, you can add 2 fuses). I believe there should be no power drain. I have just installed for say 24 hrs. I'll let you know if I see anything. Quote:
Or just look for another fuse that is similar to fuse 5. Last edited by BMW06; 07-10-2006 at 10:35 PM.. |

Has anyone paid attention to the last page of the install document that came with our units?
It states "CAUTION: When you update the car computing system, it must be cut it off which is connected to Acc power" (yes I included the bad english). Does this mean that we have to unplug or just cut off the power to the unit, or should we plug the original cable back into the navi unit in order to have updates to the car computer? |

i figure that once you have it all installed, then it will be a breeze to disconnect everything and bring it into the dealer should you never need an update
