hmm, not so sure it's that cool after all. With DVD based nav we have the option of updating ourselves, borrowing friends disks, adding own POIs, etc. With a HDD based system that could all be over...

I wonder what the price will be for an update? Wishful thinking says that without physical media involved the retail price might drop from $199 to $198 or even $197....

Like with Progman updates, maybe the maybe updates will be free if we have a problem covered by the new map, like having driven on a road that wasn't on the old map.

Your forgetting the hourly service charges from the dealer. In which case that update just got a lot more expensive!
Not to mention the annoyance of having to book service to get updated maps. Or that it might be impossible for us to add custom POI. If custom POI is not possible any more I will seriously reconsider getting the integrated nav system next time around.

Looks way to busy. What I do like however is that it indicates which lane you need to be in up ahead. Cuts down on those last minute lane changes in unfamiliar areas.

The latest TomTom devices also have this function.

The streets in Japan are not named they are in the US, so you can rely on street signs to turn. That's why the Nav screen has an aerial view + a 3D view to help you find landmarks to guide you to your destination. It's a PITA driving in Tokyo 23-Districts
