Want to go "square" on e92 - 18" or 19"?

Looking for a recommendation here. I've got the staggered "sport" setup and am considering going to the 255 tire on 8.5" wheels at all 4 corners. Haven't picked a wheel style yet, but I'm concerned about proper offset to avoid any rubbing. Suspension is stock sport setup - no mods. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions as to whether this is feasible, and should I stay with 18" or go to 19"?

Go with 18" since I'm assuming you want the performance benefit from a square setup.

Yes, I am looking to cure the understeer and also be able to rotate tires front to rear, etc.

stick with an 8.5" wheel with about a 35mm offset to run a square setup with that tire size.

18" or 19" isn't going to matter as far as fitment, but for what you are looking for, I think an 18" setup would be better

Doing the same setup myself and have run some test fits. The above is exactly correct....18x8.5 34mm offset is what I'm running on my 09 LCI E90. The best way to start is to take the rear wheels and fit them on the front. The rears should be 37mm offset...they will fit but it is very tight. So depending on your camber being stock or more go out from 37mm from there.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Go with the 18's. In my experience they're superior performance-wise to 19's. They're also less expensive.

I run BBS CH on 18x8.5" with 35mm offset. In the rear I use a 10mm spacer to compensate for 2mm lost from the stock 37mm and to add a bit more for flushness. Stock sport suspension and no other mods at this time.

I noticed an immediate difference in ride smoothness and pep versus my 162s. Also handling, neutrality, and grip improved, but that would be the tires.

Crappy Droid pic while at the post office.

OK...one more question: I've seen some really nice wheels that have what looks like a "dark chrome" finish...is this "hyper black"? My car is SGM in color...whatever color these wheels are would look good, although I'm leaning towards "hyper silver".

Ya thats generally considered hyper black.

And just to add to the previous topic. I was able to fit 265's up front on my 18x8.5 Volks which have +30 offset. No rubbing or anything. Kumho tires run narrow though... so I wouldnt suggest putting a 265 on a 8.5" rim unless you know the tire brand runs narrow.

I am in a similar boat, looking for a 18 inch square setup for my SGM. Its hard to judge by looking at pictures on what looks the best on this color car. I am going to shy away from darker rims though. This includes gun metal, hyper black, and black. From what I have seen so far Silver or Hyper silver looks the best on SGM.

Just out of curiosity what did you decide? 18s or 19s?

Here is a good thread on SGM wheel dilemma: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346314

18 X 255s will rub on my car in the front without aggressive camber. If you guys have a trick to avoid this I wanna know.

I run 255s on all four at the track but have over -3 camber on the front. My street wheels are 235s front / 265s rear for street and I run about 1.5 camber on the front for that setup. I could probably fit 245s up front but 235s are fine for the street.

see my tread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=381698

18x9 with 265 square works great, but only with 2.8 or more negative camber in front. for saily drive I will mount the same set of wheels with 255 tires square.

I decided to stick with 18s...tires are less expensive and since I don't track it, they're a little more comfortable riding than the 19s. I like the look of the 19s, though.

Even for the track, many would argue that 18s are better.

+1

Finding track-specific tires for 19s is difficult and costly.

Thanks again, everyone!

Now...anyone have a favorite wheel vendor, and do you prefer ordering tires with the wheels or buy them separately? I'm looking at VMR, maybe either V710 or VB3.

I don't believe you will find the offsets of the VB3 18s to your liking. I believe they are et40. The 710s come in et35, which are a better fit for your e9x.

Yes, you're correct - I just talked to a guy at **********s and the 18" VB3s don't come in anything less than ET40. He said 5mm wouldn't make a diff, but with 255's in the front, they'd likely rub, would they not?

In my opinion et40 will be noticeable especially in the rear. I'd stick with the 710s et35. Other 18s to check out are the Miros. They have a mesh wheel that looks pretty decent and they also have 313 reps which are quite nice. I personally like the 710s and from what I have seen in that price range are probably your best 18x8.5 square setup bet.

255 on 8.5's will make the tire a bit rounded when it gets mounted up, but it'll still work. If you have the patience to, you might want to consider 9.5" all around square setup although it will take some time to get right. Quite a few members of E90post have had this setup work with no problems
