JB4 on Autotune + WOT issue

I got my JB4 last week and threw it on map 5. At WOT I was having an intermittent problem where around 5k RPMs it feels like the car retards timing and/or cuts fuel and I hit a brick wall. I pulled a short log but I dont have it on this computer, I show the AFRs stable up to that point then it spikes and everything on the graph plummets. Is this something I should expect while the autotune is still learning? I threw it back on map 0 and everything is fine, then I restored defaults since I bought it used and didnt know if the parameters I was seeing were left over from the previous owner. I didnt see anything obvious like they were using meth though. Im back in map 5 and Im not having any issues so far. Could my car have not been fully warmed up and that would cause this condition? I remember seeing the oil temp sitting around 200.

Thank you.

It might be important to note that I was seeing around 15psi using 90 octane. We are at sealevel and our ambient air is definitely cooler than most places.

My car felt the same way when I first installed The JB4. At first there where no code but the a misfire code showed up. I put in new plugs and haven't had an issue since.

How old are your plugs?

This is not something you should feel as part of autotuning

No codes here either. I just got the car a couple weeks ago so Im not sure how old the plugs are. My next step was to actually replace them but I dont have the fancy spark plug tool just yet.

Do a log and email it in to bms if you need 1 on 1 tuning help. No other way to know what is going on with your setup.

Im not asking for 1 on 1 tuning, I just need clarification on whether or not this is part of the autotune learning process or if there could possibly be a hidden misfire or fueling issue.

When I installed my JB4 and put it on map 5 that never happened to me, I have 18k miles. Depending on your milage, carbon intake cleaning sounds like your solution.

im partial with e90company...if you have any minor issues that arent noticable with a stock setup...a sure way to find out is throw a tune on....spark plugs...coil packs...carbon build up...injectors can seem stable on stock tune but are obviously failing with a performance tune...start with plugs and log your runs to help identify your issues

I uploaded the 7/22 firmware and drove it around a few miles for the car to get use to it ( maybe 30 miles) and then did a WOT run and it took a while to build boost and then boost fell flat on its face in 4th. When I was running the 5/23 firmware, NEVER had this issue and the car feels like a monster right after you upload it. There was a post on N54tech that people were having similar issues but after a few days and a few WOT runs, eveything started to be where it should... After that run I re-loaded the 5/23 back on as for some reason my car runs WAY better on this firmware. Terry assured me its the same learning logic and basically the same as 5/23 but with additional things for end users. Well I know Terry knows everything but I was happy with the 5/23 and im just leaving it on that for now. Every N54 is different so this might not be your case, but then again, it might. If you need the 5/23 just PM me and I can email it to you.

Oddly enough I was just thinking about that after it happened again on my way home from work. I also upgraded to the new version and thats when the issue started.

I got the exact same feeling, but I also got a "reduced power" check light. When I tried to do a log the only variable I noticed that kept increasing was the WG correction. I found this a bit odd. I'm on the Mar 2012 firmware, could be Feb I can't remember lol.

I did happen to pull a boost leak code though....investigating this now.

Reset boost limit. 18-20 for spikes.

Still on the 7/22 firmware. I ran around on map 1 yesterday with no issues so I threw on map 2 today and still no issues. I need to pull a log to make sure I'm not running lean.

If you get a reduced power light first step is to read the code. 9 times out of 10 that will point you in the right direction for correcting it. With E85 mixes some cars need a manual "open loop" adjustment which is documented in the firmware notes.

I was getting codes/limps with misfires only when i was at the end of 3rd going into 4th... sometimes it would be just like i get a rev limit and sometimes i hit the rev limit type feeling and got a limp mode afterwards, always at the same exact mph and gear, 3rd into 4th.. logs looked good otherwise as was power. Sent in a log to Terry, and a log of the issue and limp..

So i followed terrys instructions and it seems to have cured my issues.

3) Revised open loop mapping and introduced open loop auto learning system. This will automatically range open loop fueling as a function of fuel trims and other internal parameters. *** NOTE *** In some cars the auto learning may not properly range open loop fueling, triggering false 29F2 fuel pressure codes, and you will need to set it manually. To do this first disable open loop learning by setting FutureUseA = 2. Then start with an open loop setting of 75. If you experience 29F2 codes lower the setting by 5 until they subside. If your fuel trims are stuck over 50, you experience run lean failsafe (2 SES flashes), or encounter frequent 2D25 tuner codes, increase the setting by 5 until they subside. If your high fuel pressure is consistently below 13 when open loop is 75% or higher you likely have a physical fuel pump problem. If you are unable to find a suitable setting to avoid both 29F2 and 2D25 codes you will need to reduce the alcohol content of your fuel (e.g. if mixing in E85 mix in less), lower the all map AFR settings to lean the air/fuel targets, or use a fixed boost map like 1 or 2.

i believe from the may maps to 7/22 introduced auto fp mapping, most likely an issue there that can be addressed with turning off auto fp mapping and experimenting with diff fp mapping settings

Throw up your logs.
My friend is having a similar issue and I will be diagnosing it for him tonight to try and figure out what's going on.
