Scratches on my E90

Last night my car got hit with a stray egg when a group of kids were egging and shaving creaming each other in our alley. One of the kids felt bad and came back later that night to tell my mom there was egg on my car... Since I wasn't home she tried to clean it off, and she scrubbed so hard there are marks on my hood....im at work and she called and said she noticed it a lot more this the morning..The car is black sapphire and there are always light scratch marks that show up after washing cause the dealership said the paint is "soft".... I haven't seen it, but when she took it in to the car wash they said something about buffing it out??

Would that be pointless or could it help?

It could always help. It depends on how bad the scratches are. Can you post any pics when you get a change.

Take it to a reputable detailer pronto. With some buffed polish followed by a good sealant, it can look better than new. But I wouldn't delay.

Ya, most body shops can just buff those thigs out. As long as the scratches arent too deep then they can take them out very quickly. Good luck and I hope the car comes out OK

You also have to watch because the acid in the yolk will leave marks in the clear coat and eat down into the paint. If this is the case I would make the kid/parents pay for the damages. Inspect the area really good and look for any marks.

I looked at it and its like a white film that is on the hood of the car.. does that mean it ate through the paint??

Xphstos--- i dont get how people could key someone's car either.. i just dont know what makes them think thats ok. hope your brothers car turns out alright.

Can you post a pic of how it looks like?

A professional detailer will able to confirm if the scratches can be buffed off or not.

sorry to hear this. I would make note of all the white filmy area and show that to the professional detail shop so they can give it special attention. Hopefully, they don't over buff and eat away the clear coat.

It sounds like your mother scrubbed it like it was a floor.

Good luck with the detailer.

You can always get the hood repainted.

What did mom use to rub it out? Again, pictures can speak volumes to some of us who have removed this kind on thing. I've removed egg remnants from a customer's car (Jet Black 530i) who let it sit for a month and he didn't do much to try and remove it immediately. It sounds like it could be easily removed by someone who knows that they are doing and I personally only charge for the removal of the affected area - pretty reasonable if that's what you are looking for.

My concern when he called me was the impact of the egg and the shell fracturing on his clearcoat. That's tougher to deal with than removing the egg "guts". Nonetheless, get on it asap.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

That stinks, at least they admitted to it but it seems like it was already too late. Good luck with the repairs.

hey guys, Sorry I never posted Pictures of this (im not very good at posting pictures... )..

.My dad took it in to be buffed on fri morning and I never got the chance.....i actually was never even able to see the actual damage... (i hate turning the clocks forward.. its so depressing to come home to pitch black at 6:00pm..) the white film kinda just came right off i guess..and the scratches appeared to be nothing deeper than what normally shows after a wash..... I dont get how the paint could be that soft that it always shows such a great deal of marks?????

Anyways I appreciate all your advice so much. Im happy the buff made the car look great ... and then it sat under our huge tree out front and got pelted with bird shit... ...

. can't win them all

well at least it didn't ruin your paint. you can't really blame the paint for dumb kids with eggs.

I have received my e92 330ci on Monday, and I was lucky to notice a small scratch on the driver's door while still at the dealer's.
They have mentioned on the delivery paper that the scratch was there, and I will bring the car back so that they can fix it. Otherwise, I would not have been able to prove that this was already on the car when I got it, and I would have been forced to get a police report and pay the minimum charge for the insurance to get it fixed.
