BMW's fix is a software update and if that doesn't work they replace the turbo's (actually, only the turbo that is rattling). It is covered under the extended 6 year 82,000 mile warranty. If you have the rattle, get it into a dealer.

That image could use a bit of QA. Not only should it be "turbos" as already pointed out (except for the N55), I'm not entirely sure what a "wastgate" is. Is that like the "westgate" I occasionally read about here as well?

when the waste gates are closed you look like the first picture, when the waste gates open you look like the second picture, that should give you an idea of what a waste gate does
|

You can try but most likely not. I had an Acura RSX with a salvage title. I tried to get work done with a TSB but was told they would not do the work for free. I was also told the only way they would do warranty work is if it were a recall for safety.

I know what the OP meant and what a wastegate does, I was just commenting that some proofreading wouldn't have hurt.
