Ok stupid vibration question

Should i be able to feel the engine in the car and through the steering?

Its only a very slight vibration - feels like a normal engine rotating but i can feel it in the car when stationary and the when moving i can feel it through the steering (only very slight)

Is it normal? if not (i.e should be sliky smooth) what do you recon it could be?

like i say its not a massive vibration.

All the time - but you can't feel it over the road vibration if the road is rough

Its hard to explain its a "smooth" vibration - the engine feels fine

Any noises associated with the slight vibration?? As benzo mentions, could be a wheel bearing...which are usually diagnosed by a constant humming.

To be honest it feels like i can feel the engine turning over BUT should i even be able to feel it...?

Its due an oil change in about 3500 miles would that make any difference?

Reason I suggest this is because if when moving you put the box into N and rev the car you don't feel any change in the vibration. Put it back into drive and and accelerate you get a change in the.vibration ( still only small)

My tyres are worn and the roads are rubbish around here so it could tyre balance or alignment I suppose.

Had the alignment done and tyres replaced and it still feels the same,

I checked the front wheel bearings by hand and there was no play I could feel

It has to be something in the steering surely?(if something is.actually even wrong) I wouldn't feel mounts would I?

Some more info -

The vibration seems to be at its worst driving around 1300 1600rpm at about 40mph or if you accelerate

If I take the car out of drive it goes away?

Prop donut? Mounts? Or maybe the torque converter is on its way out?

To be honest the more I drive it the more I convince myself it's something serious. Although the rumble/vibration does go away when you get over 2000rpm

What if you are in neutral and keep the motor revved up to the trouble RPM? Could help isolate the issue further if the vibration comes back (then it's more likely motor/mounts vs. driveline)

Hmm.. I know I have a vibration issue, but mine is with engine running, at stop light in D mode I feel vibrations in steering wheel at 700 rpms. Then turn off A/C button and its smooth as silk.

Dealership said there's an issue but they don't now what it is?

Maybe you should check your transmission suspension?

Did you check the errors in INPA?

Perhaps one of your injector is damaged.

Yes, it is possible.

But you could also check your injectors corrections with Live Data in INPA.

What is the mileage of your car?

Could be two separate things.

The stationary vibration could be the AC compressor; my car has been doing this recently with about 120,000 on the compressor (I had to replace it at 85K miles). Not sure why it is doing this.

The steering vibration could be as simple as a slightly bent rim, but my guess, depending on the mileage could be the hydraulic bushings in the front suspension Thrust Arms, which is a common problem, but comes more into play under light braking. A good fix for this is M3 Thrust Arms, which are about $50 more in parts cost than the stock non-M parts.
