No idea why they're priced as such but I personally used Castrol on my last (first) service.
Next time I will be changing to Fuchs Titan as it comes highly recommended by others here. |

To be honest any BMW LL04 oil in the specification for your car could be used.
Both the Mobile 1 ESP and Castrol Edge are LL04 oils. Mobile 1 ESP is a long life oil too, so would recommend going for it. |

I think I'll get some Mobil 1 from Halfords since they seem to be much the same prices as Opie Oils and get them to use that!
Hopefully should save me a few bob |

Anyone used this oil, it seems to be within the required spec and works out at £3.94 per Litre

I had a lot of trouble doing this with the dealers local to me and had to give up in the end.
BMW said that it's the dealers prerogative to chose or refuse what oil they accept. Stephen James Ruxley would only use oil with 'Castrol Professional' on the bottle. Other dealers were hard work but more cooperative. Some places said that the oil filter had to say BMW on the box. However, with the service counter at 0 I just wanted it done. I spoke to a sales guy and he said the service department are just not used to people haggling. I know some people will say 'what a load of tosh, they can't refuse' but they did and BMW weren't in my court. |

Ive taken to supplying my own oil because I don't trust dealers not to charge you for the expensive stuff then fill you up with cheap generic crap....or simply just make a mistake.
The better more customer orientated dealers will let you supply your own oil, which is the way it should be - the only stipulation the dealer should make, is the type and make of oil for cars still covered under BMW warranty. If your dealer won't let you supply then go somewhere else. |
