The 116i I had before wasn't as difficult to do. Probably due to the lack of power, it's really hard to get the throttle right on the 335 and keep moving smoothly after a shift down to 1st. The gear is fairly short and a tiny throttle movement can send you into the back of the car in front. Granted I rarely use 1st, and generally you can just go 1st -> 3rd in normal driving, but occasionally I have to use it from a non standstill and it's not an easy gear to get into. The torque comment was unrelated to downshifting, that was just another comment. It is kinda weird when you engage a clutch when you have 300lb/ft of torque :| I agree, I rarely change down first, which maybe is why it is still being mastered. Granted the kangaroo effect is much smaller now but it is still there! |

i'll admit that when i get my next car (maybe a an M135i) it will be the auto. The manual shift in many BMW's leaves me cold. our old 328i was notchy as hell between 1st and 2nd gears, so was my mates 330i and so is my E90 325i 6MT. I hate having to use 1st at all, its far too highly geared and is pretty much only good for getting you rolling, but on the 325i/330i theres not quite enough torque low down to pull the car up from 2nd gear. So you find yourself revving out first and getting a rather snatched change into 2nd gear.
I dont like it. Both my old 530D and 330i autos were much nicer to be in. the M135i has a superb auto box, it locks up in pretty much all the early gears, giving a nicely connected feel and no loss of performance. In fact the shift times are so good, that i believe the performance AND economy figures are better for the 8 speed auto than they are for the manual. I think I agree with many here that powerful cars are better suited to autos, it makes them more manageable at lower speeds, and just as functional at high speeds. lets not confuse the current 8 speed auto, with the slow, clunky, dim witted, and thirsty beasts that were in the old E39's. These new boxes are fast, efficient and allied to a paddle shifter, great fun too!! |

Sounds a great spec, been fannying around trying to get a deal on one on and off since December.
Broadspeed no discount on options, my local dealers nothing more than token % off. One broker left trying to hunt me a deal, if not probably give up and lease a 330d tourer...

Have you tried broker4cars? Seem to be good deals to be had. Also worth having a read of http://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php...3a1e3b4d63b08c

It's still too new. You can already see the headroom opening up on the last Einser 3 and 5 doors. Steve

Looks like found a local dealer who'll play ball, @10% off inc options.
Going to play around with the specs and colours now. Silver and coral current favourite. Anyone know if electric seats go as low as manual? Know they didn't on e46 and at 6'5" matters. Will ask on the 1 pages.
