Quick question re kidney removal - Please Help ASAP!!!
Hey,
So I am about to replace the kidney grills on my e93 and have a quick question I hope someone can answer. What type of screws need to be removed in order to do this swap? One of the DIY I have seen says that they are Torx-20 while another says that they are Hex 5/32. Which is it? I don't have the tool so I am planning on going out and buying whatever I need. Also, I am going to remove my bumper to change the lower grills. What kind of tools do I need to do that (the DIY doesn't specify). Please help ASAP as I am about to go to Home Depot! Thanks in advance... |

I'd rather have my kidney removed with a scalpel. A flat head screwdriver will produce excessive bleeding, and the kidney will likely be worthless.
Make sure they pack you in a bathtub full of ice once they take out the kidney.

Look up the DIY's on them, they're very helpful... I dont remember off the top of my head or i'd tell you. Kidneys, no problem, lower, pain in the ass, I hope you have patience.

By the way...you do NOT have to remove your bumper to change the lower mesh grilles..Just requires some finesse. The big one in the middle comes out and goes in really easy...the sides are the painful ones...but if you just think about it and do it logically you can figure it out...but again you do not have to remove the bumper I certainly didn't.

torx wrench for the 4-6 (cant remember offhand) bolts on the top of the bumper under the hood.
then pry the bumper forward slightly, enough to get your hand and a flathead behind it, and gently pry the tabs forward. might need a flashlight back there. |

i followed this DIY and it was perfect. word to the wise use blue painters tape and tape around the the fenders and hood or you may scratch during re-assembly...learned the hard way. also, if you have headlight washers tape around the covers. you can push out the drivers side washer arm from behind when you have the wheel well cover loose but you will need to carefully pry the other. a second person makes this much easier. good luck.
