Can't say I've had any problems with my PDC/Voice activation etc since installation.

I noticed it did this before I had the Alpine upgrade. It doesn't really bother me.I haven't got idrive if that makes any kind of difference?.I wouldn't have thought so though. Oh well.

Hi Chaps...........

Just phoned Halliwell Jones in warrington about the Alpine upgrade which they list at £250
They quoted £700 fitted!

Then the guy says "no hang on it says it can't be fitted to cars with SA676"

he said my cars spec is just BMW Prof Radio CD with Hifi Loudspeaker System........

Anyone know if my speakers are better than standard - or just the bog standard ones.....??

Its a 2007 335d E92 Coupe

Correct, you already have an upgraded system that utilises a separate amp and upgraded speakers - the Alpine upgrade therefore isn't for you.

So what exactly do i have????

Maybe thats why, when i read that people moaned about the standard system (which i thort i had) - i disagreed, and thought it was OK........

If you lift up the flap in the boot floor - there is what looks like an amp there(bluetooth???) - and also in the left floor pan where a changer would go - there is what looks like an amp there too.......

Yes, the Hi-Fi system comes with an amp in the boot, which drives the speakers (rather than the amp in the main unit). All the speakers have also been upgraded over the standard setup and include tweeters in the front doors (not present in the standard system).

The Alpine upgrade is designed as a retrofit to offer a similar type of setup to the one you have on your car for people who's cars were delivered with the standard system.

I believe the amp lives under the boot floor, probably next to another unit thats for the bluetooth system.

Question

looking at fitting this tomorrow but just went looking for the radio code for when you disconnect the battery (unless you can get away with not disconnecting the battery) and can't find it anywhere (second hand car so will presume first owner has misplaced it). So, can I do this safely without disconnecting the battery or is there another way to get the code?

I didn't disconnect the battery to fit it - just fit the power cables as the last job, keeps it safe.

well, it has now been done and must say I love it, it may not be the same as what you could do if you ripped it out and started again but the difference is good enough for me. I love the fact you can now actually get bass out of it while listening to a CD without having to crank the volume up, which is what I was hoping for. Overall I would say it is a great buy if you want to keep everything stock and hide it all away and it wasn't a very difficult install

Didn't disconnect it but it had a loss of power for a second while connecting (just took the fuse out of the amp wire before connecting it), afterwards I messed about routing the cables and about 30 mins later when I went to move the seats forward (electric) they wouldn't and the radio wouldn't turn on, just stuck the key in and everything was fine again.

I took the seats out anyway and found it a lot easier to find where the cables were coming from, in my experience the cables met near enough under the drivers seats and on the passenger side it was under the edge of the carpet and near enough where the plastic strip you pull up starts in the footwell

The wires you need to splice are the ones that plug into the subwoofer on the 4-pin connector. The instructions have the color code of the wires.

I got done installing the Alpine kit on my car, which was plug and play since I ordered the newer kit, but the sound is a little bit off.

Can someone with the alpine kit try this: Fade the volume all the way to the front. Does the 4-in mid bass driver in the door sound like it's doing something or does it sound like the only thing working is the tweeters? If I have the fader set in the middle of F/R, the system as a whole sounds decent, however with it set to F fully it sounds like crap. Not sure if that's normal. The amp also runs slightly hotter than what I'm used... almost hot enough after a 1 hr drive that I can only leave my hands on it a few seconds.

Hey guys,

I have just read the whole thread after searching for answers. I have a 318i and it has come with a BMW Professional system. It has the four stardard speakers not sure if it has the subs under the seats.

I am thinking of upgrading the system. I was reading that the Earthquake SWS-8 subs are very good. I am very new to the concept and only know a few things by reading various threads.

If I go for the SWS-8 subs, which amplifier would i need to buy, also I want to change all the speakers to some nice ones, Any good brands you recommend. Would I need to upgrade the head unit....

I am not sure if I should start a new thread or something.

Thanks,
Shah
