Ok I see where youre going with this... and I agree with you, but at 11pm most highways would make nice roads to drive, just gotta watch out for 5-0...

Just thought of another great drive where you could do some high speed driving w/o worrying too much about the police (cause everyone speeds).
take 17N to 87N (ny state throughway) nice long fast drive all the way up to Harriman NY (Woodbury Commons Outlets)

There are some very nice places up in New Paltz. Did a run up there to eat back in my Porsche days, and afterwards a few of us ran up into the reserve there, followe 209 up to the bridge and over into Reinbeck. Had dinner there and what not, and went home via the Taconic. I would consider it an all day thing though..its about 2 hours away.

That looks great and would make an awesome day-trip from Albany... Do any of you guys know if there are some Vinyards or any other POI so I can convince my better half of the relevance of this trip?

hmmmm.... trip through bear mountain, into harriman state park....

from harriman state park you can go right onto 17A, go through tuxedo up into warwick.

Travel through the black dirt country of Pine Island, and then through greenville NY to 23.

Shoot past High Point, and then follow through Port Jervis along the delaware, eventually hitting the Hawks Nest.....

That would be defff a goood ride for the day

and for convincing the other half...
Picnic in Bear Mountain, Apple Picking/Wineries/shopping in warwick, High Point Monument (breathtaking views), Hawks next being an awesome ride...

and o yea, if you were to do it in the summer, rafting down the delaware would be a great way to finish a trip...

Any rural part of NY or CT will be a nice ride to be honest. There are some beautiful areas around Quinnipiac in Wallingford CT and that area, as in the valley off route 8, take side roads from Waterbury to Naugatuck, there are some nice roads in there... basically, just hit up your GPS for shorter distance, and it will get you the scenic route sometimes....

Just be careful to not do that in cities, because my iDrive is notorious for bringing me through the ghetto

I agree with the fellow who suggested the Taconic State Parkway, especially above Yorktown Heights in Westchester. It's a challenging road to drive -- narrow lanes, lots of changes in elevation, sharp curves, some of it literally hacked through the forest, with trees right up against the road (i.e. no shoulders). There's an S-curve on a steep hill in Putnam County that leaves most drivers white-knuckled.

In PA...

My best ride in Pennsylvania was in my beloved E46 330 Cic across most of Rte 6. It runs clear across the upper portion of the state. - http://www.paroute6.com/ Just check it out on the web first to see if they are doing any road work. That'll really slow you down.

I'm not sure if you get out near the Philadelphia area but, one of my favorite rips to rotate the tires and bang some off-camber turns starts in Devon, PA on Darby-Paoli Raod...right onto Goshen Road as it continues to Strasburg Road. You can run that all the way out to Lancaster County. And from there....every road kicks. Best if run early in the AM on a weekend.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...6305&z=14&om=1

As a side note: I even went airborne a couple of years back out Lancaster way and my roll bars deployed. I was too focused trying to get them back down that I didn't think to take a pic of the car with the bars up. Probably would've gotten some strange looks if I left them up and drove around for a couple of days afterward. : )

PS – Nope, shock mounts were AOK...I just wound up getting some new front-end bushings during my next warranteed service visit.

+1
This stretch through Minnewaska State Park is a blast. After that hairpin turn on the east end, you can open it up and put a big grin on your face.

+1. I find myself yelling and cursing at the roads because of all the God damn potholes and other pieces of debris that clutter the roads.

to the OP -- I would say NOT 287, NOT Parkway, NOT Turnpike
