Well I am FROM Texas. And I can say that without question, in my area (N of Dallas) Police regularly setup speed traps and hide in unsuspecting areas all in an effort to write speeding tickets! Thank Goodness Radar Detectors are Legal here. Although I am not some "irresponsible jackass speed demon", sure, I will drive 10+ miles over. And they WILL pull you over for going @ 10mph or less. It is complete Bullshit! I can NOT even imagine driving a car without a detector here. It has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the years without question.
I am in Austin, TX quite a lot. Definitely one of most strict speeding ticket places I have been. I had always been told by friends the cops have a 10% rule in Texas. Anything over 10% the limit, they will instantly write you a ticket. Sure enough last year I got a ticket for going 68 in a 60. Whenever I am in town I drive with my cruise control on everywhere. Otherwise I find it dangerous to constantly be looking down at my gauges. Forget driving with the flow of traffic. It is tough since I grew up in Los Angeles, where you can book it down the 405 no problem.

You can't "make it rain" with one (or two) dollar bills in Canada. Well you could but you'd be facing some sort of assault charges.

You should go occupy your local police station, bring some of your armed friends. Hold yourself up there. Eat gummy-dicks sent through the mail and make youtube vids. It would be fun, you'd get to know your super-manly male buddies. You could talk all day about how badass you are, etc.

This is Canada. We are not stuck in the 50's, our $1 are coins.

Our strippers only take $5 bills.

Dude admitted he was speeding, albeit by a not that huge amount. He was speeding though. He's a complete dickhead for doing that though...

Fun random fact, it costs more than 1 cent to make a penny so a penny costs more than it's worth.

Don't remind us please.

But have you seen the pretty colors of our bills ?

We don't have to worry about giving highway toll employee (or above mentioned fine artists/dancers - if I was ever to do such thing, which of course I don't ) a $100 bill by mistake instead of $1, $5, $10 or $20 I indeed to. US bills look all the same to "us", especially late at night.

Anyway, back to the topic, the guy paying in pennies is a douche, and this thread is getting ugly. I'm just trying to derail for the sake of stopping all the silliness. Time for mods to lock it up maybe ??

This. No sympathy, whatsoever, for someone who speeds through residential areas. If I travel above the limit in other places, I slow down and actually go THE limit in residential areas. I've seen too many times where a kid or dog jumps out from behind somewhere that you thought was totally clear. This is exactly why they gave him a ticket. You man up and pay your fine like a responsible human adult, or in this case, you act like you were bullied and try to claim you are a victim, because you are immature.

If you read some of the other articles, you'll see he overpaid by $7 and some cents. Guy can't even count his pennies.

Shit around in Arlington I've seen full grown adults just cut across a street with headphones in while jogging in residential areas from parallel parked cars so I can barely see them coming. Why I always just go the speed limit in residential areas too.

I agree with most that this is a dick move for a variety of reasons, and agree if I speed I can be held responsible. That said, does it chap anyone else's ass when the bill is paid to the "revenue department?" Change it to public safety or some such nonsense.

Speeding is a complete bullshit law. Back in the 80s in the midwest there wasn't any speeding BS - you got a ticket for reckless driving or you got a talking to.

Traffic citations were used as a political leverage tool from mayors and governors to punish their opponents.

Then those politicians realized they could cut taxes but make up the revenue with traffic citations - a shadow tax. And we all fell for it.

Back in the 80's it took about as long to get to 60 mph as it did to heat up a Hot Pocket.

This happened in Frisco?

I live across the street from Frisco. It is NOT a speed trap town. When they set up to catch speeders, its in the median, middle of the road. You can see them way before you would get a ticket. This guy is just a dumb ass. If he was in Lewisville, Southlake, Irving, or one of the other "speedtrap" suburbs around Dallas, I would understand. But Frisco? Cops are actually very cool there.

Yeah and you would also see kids laying across the back dash in the family truckster on road trips but now kids are in rear-facing car seats until college. Things change.
