Today's mod

Removed my roof rails today and fitted the replacement inserts without holes.
Got to say I'm really happy with the look - to me it looks sleeker and more sporty, in character with the M Sport look.
Before:-

After:-

Apologies for the wierd angles my drive is very steep!!

Looks good.

Was it an easy / reasonably priced job??

Can it be fairly quickly returned to standard to fit the roof box on for holidays etc???

Thanks - took about 3 hrs - the headlining has got to come out - not difficult just time consuming. The replacement cover are about £150 and need to be painted (although you can get black versions for about the same money if you're not fussed on colour coding)

Hmmm, I always liked the roof rails on the e91 and the A4 avants. However I know what its like to want a change.

So long as its reversible if/when you choose to then more power to you.

looks better with them on as i think the tourer is a lovely motor but the rails add a bit to the aggression.

The A4 rails I could live with - smaller and finsihed in brushed silver the E91 not- they are too big, (in relation to the car) and the matt black finish doesn't go with anything else on the car.

Not quite sure how the rails add to aggression (assuming you are talking about aggression from a performance pov), rails are always on older 4x4 and estates!!

Thanks - thats the way I see it - more and more modern estates (wagons) have smaller or no rails know - much cleaner!

For me personally its akin to seeing someone you know everyday who wears glasses, then one day they start wearing contact lenses. Its not a bad look, just a bit wierd.

It'll only take a few more days for me to adjust to seeing them in contacts and then it seems like a no brainer.

Excellent mod.

I like it. And I get the 'shooting brake' thing someone mentioned. Though I do like the slimmer/lower rails on the later E91s.

Thanks - if I had had the slimmer late model slimmer rails I prolly wouldn't have bothered as they are more in keeping with the car's character, I did consider them as a retrofit but went this route to have something unique.

I think it looks really good - clean/slick look.

I must say, seeing al these tourers makes me really want to get one for my next motor. Wierd coz i am traditionally a coupe guy, who then moved onto saloons (although bought a remapped 2 door mk4 GTI for a laugh ) and now tourers...bizarre!
