RE: Another Victim of HPFP

Gosh....kind of bad luck today as I drive myself to work in the morning and my 335 is running great...Then, I tried to re-start the car at my work place in the afternoon to prepare a ride for my daughter attending her Herb private lesson and then, my car is having the CEL, with the symptom of limp mode or 2 cylinders does't work!!

Pull myself to the closest garage and then, check for the fault code and apparently, HFPF......since the warranty already expired and I'm wondering if anyone knows if BMW HK is adapting the same of the States is doing...extended the HPFP for 10 years, 100,000 kms?? Call a few parts dealers and they all running out of the new 13517592881 HPFP in stock....Have to give Bimmer HK a try to see if they have stock but it will be hurting of course..

B.R.,
Matthew

Hey Mattew,
I have a 335i too and my warranty is up in 3 months so I'm interested to know if BMWHK will cover after the warranty is expired. When u say HPFP problem, did u experience long crank during startup? I read from the US forum that the fuel pump problem maybe related to the bad gas they have over there, what fuel do you put in? In another thread, I saw you car has jb3 and other mods. I'm not sure if this is related but you may want to remove you mod first if you want to press for warranty claim. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Minichamp,
I have the exact DSC/ABS pump a month ago and BMW replaced the pump for me cuz my car is still under warranty. I asked the guy at TKW and he said the part will cost close to $30K to replace if I have to pay out of my own pocket. I will be really pissed if this happens after warranty expires given my mileage hasn't even reach 15k yet. It is ridiculous for such an expensive part to fail so early. Kind of make me a bit regret not joining their service plan. Good luck with your claim with BMW

Hi ec,

Yes, my friend told me that part alone costs $29,800. I am glad that my part failed only 4 months after my warranty expired, so I can still claim it. My car is also very low mileage (18K km). Before your warranty expires try to make BMWHK change the door locks for you. This is also a well known problem for E9X. They changed all my locks, that saved me at least $10k

Yeah, I heard some of the E90 members here in HK have door locks issue, but I doubt BMW will change the locks for me as they are still functioning. Did you get them replaced before they let go? Which service advisor did you talk to @ Shatin? Seems he is quite generous on warranty claims.

This is what I doubted too. Last time, I visit BMWHK for 2nd service and check up. I asked them to check all plugs , etc....and originally they said no need, since plugs will not have prob until after 3 years.....

What worries more is that, it may even be worse off if you have them change the door lock which originally is still functioning, but then the new one is not....

So, I guess, at least continuing on the 3rd year waranty package would be better

Hi Guys, As expected, I've declined by the Bimmer HK for having the HPFP to fix when the warranty of mine is expired and whilst, I have no alternative to fix it out of own pocket!! As of the extended warranty, BMW HK is charging way too much in which, there is no way to pay this amount of money unless we are preparing to pay for high maintenance cost for our Bimmer...

How much did BMWHK quote you for replacing the fuel pump?

Hi EC 893, Trust me....you don't wanted to know...the HPFP alone is HKD5300 comparing to many shops in US selling btw 350-400 level..... of course + shipping& handling..!! Then, we are talking about 3 hours of labor hours to replace the pump... Conceivably, you should know how much labor per hour those freaking guy is charging those owners whose are no longer warranty covered like me...

Renus, No need to worry about it.....your car is warranty covered as of 2009 production car.... if you have the symptom of long crank when cold start and then, the car act like limp mode or 2 cylinders are not running....then, go to BMW Service and ask for a new HPFP replacement....as the chance is 80% right.
