"Interesting, just found a post that says exactly the opposite of this thread and it's only from the beginning of this month:"

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9953994

Only time will tell.

I started this thread only because ESS asked me if there would be interest. There is a lot of interest.

ESS has also told us they'd watch this thread. They have posted on this thread saying they're going to look into this.
Quite possibly they started to consider this based on the number of inquiries they've received recently, yours included.

Again, ESS said they're looking into it and only time will tell.

ESS - it looks like we have about 45 people who are pretty serious about this (yes, I counted). Is that enough interest?

I'm interested to see this come to life. Reliability and price are my biggest concerns.

If the price is right, I'd be interested.

Sorry but 45 from an internet site doesn't really mean that much. Its looked at as, only a 10th of the 45 people actually have the means of following through with such a purchase.
I'd be interested to see how many of the people who said they'd be up for it are leasing their cars

True, and you'd have to consider of course their R&D costs, operating leverage, etc. However, I don't think obsolescence (depreciation) costs would be high with such a healthy used car market, so theres probably a way to make this work - from a business perspective.

Well, if ESS came out with a legit announcement of such a system, and provided a detailed time-frame, there is no reason they can't ask for 10%, or some flat monetary deposit for people who are truly interested in the kit. It would have to be a refundable fee, however, if that timeline/deadline isn't met by ESS. Just an idea, that may keep ESS and customers happy...

Honestly I just finished paying off my 328i and put in a new diff with different gearing. So I'd love to pop in a supercharger in my car in the future. Cause I'm making this my track car anyway!

And if anything the N51 Should be easier to go on boost since it has a lower compression ratio than it's N52 counterparts.

No bad blood at all

I think the N52 is a fantastic engine, and it is more advanced than the N54. But for 400 RWHP you can chip, intake and downpipe your N54 for approximately 1600 dollars.

I just got an email reply from ESS. It says that they are currently debating whether they will be developing a kit for the N52 or not. They responded with:

"We will make a decision this fall on wheter [sic] to proceed on this project or not"

risk sharing makes sense, that would be huge. it would also lock-in pre-sales too.

just got my SSK in, will be installing that this week... hopefully that'll keep the mod bug off until this solidifies

Yes, makes perfect sense. They said they would evaluate it after they finish the 540/545 series so that's consistant with what they said before.
We still need to keep this thread live. They are watching it and because of this thread they are considering it.

I would put the money down on something like this to secure a kit. I have been a fan of ESS since I found out about their programmer.

Can I ask the community what kind of charger they are hoping for? If I was to supercharge I would prefer roots over centrifugal. But that's just me.

Hopefully they realize the many applications for this thing not just the 3 series. Ive been wanting to add some power to the wife's 528. And don't forget the 1 series, the X3 and the Z4 guys either, ESS. That's a hell of a lot of cars.

I think it depends on the terms of the downpayment. What am I getting for it? How long? How much? etc
