The optional moonroof won't matter much, because 99% of dealer ordered cars will have the moonroof option. The majority of buyers won't even notice the change.
I have heard everything that people in this thread have insinuated. I have a friend who has the G35S 4 door MT. He loves his car and he knows more about cars than most of you on this board. He fixes his cars himself. He spent 5 minutes behind the wheel of my car and he was speechless. All he said was 'Its light years more fun than the 330i, and this torque is unreal'.

That being said, I built my car based on my specs and waited 2 months for it to show up. All it has is heated seats (I was forced to get this option), the coral red leather (but after feeling the leatherette, I should have gone that route), and the ZSP (best decision). My only regret is not getting the ZPP, which came with blue tooth and auto dimming mirrors (driving at night with an SUV tailing you can get trecherous). I do not need the memory seats or the moonroof to be absolutely honest. Hell I would want them to take off a lot of those pesky driving aides like DTS and hill assist, as long as they shave off ~ 7-800 lbs. Also remember, more electronics means more pains as german cars are notorious for electronics failing.

I am a true driving enthusiast and want my cars to be small, nible and light. Unfortunately, I am not at that point in my career yet where I can afford a P car that I like, so I bought the 335 that makes an awesome compromise.

MR was optional in 2003, optional on my ZHP. No big deal to me. Yes, I prefer to have one, yes, I would pay extra for one...

If cloth was an option, many of us would have gone for it. I know leather is viewed as upscale in the states, but cloth is easier to live with in a lot of ways.

There goes 5 seconds I'll never get back. The car you want is a 135

I personally prefer to pay extra coupe of large if it could get me better built/quality car. Yesterday I drove my wife’s 22K base 2009 Honda Accord and couldn't believe how quite it was. There was no road noise BUT best of all no rattles at all. My 60K car has tons of rattles all over from dash board to rear of the car (I am not even talking about rattles from convertible top). This is really ridiculous. I had a 2006 Infiniti M45 which I drove for 60,000 miles in 2 years, and never heard a single rattle. And car never been at the dealer except for once for tire/wheel problem after hitting a pot hole. This is what, 6th or 7th generation of 3 series and quality is getting worse. Yes performance is great, handling is great but I think I have a right to expect to have a better car after spending 60K

Your car must've been built on a Friday. Mine is almost 2 years old now, no rattles at all.

A MY2010 car will usually come out in the second half of 2009, so it reduces the confusion by making it clear if the person means a certain car will come out in 2009 as a MY2010 or will actually come out in 2010.

Calendar year -- keep in mind that some manufacturers release the next model year relatively early in the prior calendar year.

I've had multiple BMWs with cloth seats and I much prefer the cloth compared to the leather seats I now have.

Unfortunately, BMW NA views cloth as not being luxurious enough (for some reason, leatherette is perceived as luxurious ) but cloth is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

and don't forget, when you're bombing down the exit ramp and turning onto the entry into the highway with a perfect 4 wheel drift the cloth seats help you keep your ass where it needs to be.

Part of the beauty of the BMW optioning system is freedom of choice. Other manufacturers bundle options into packages with fixed availability in regions.

With BMW we can all order our cars the way we want them. Almost. I would like some further options, like an expanded list of BMW Performance goodies installed at the factory at reduced cost. Manual cloth seats. LSD. Weight reduction.

Those who want a luxury car BMW can order it that way. Those who want a performance car BMW can have their fun too. Hopefully we will get a supersport package soon.
+1

I just drove a loaner 09 328 with Steptronic, power seats, heated seats, metallic paint. Sticker price $37,000. With leatherette seats, $37,000. It's quality leatherette and I know lots of people like it, but wow.

I think the biggest misconception in this thread is the notion of value added.

With a/v receivers, the longer you wait, the more value you get. A receiver that was $449 13 mos. ago sells for $197 today. I know, I bought one. Its replacement just came out and is $549. Maybe next year that one is $297.

With BMWs, you see a lot of prices going up. But on top of that, you see features coming out and becoming optional. So at 50k, a 335 coupe is just getting started, whereas 3 years ago, it was loaded. So I think the mistake many are making is that hey, the Logic 7 doesn't come with the car, I don't want it anyway so I'm free to choose a car without it, and a sunroof, and a flashlight in the glove, and two more speakers off the base stereo, and no ashtray, no 2nd 12V lighter socket, etc. That's what people are missing here in this thread--features being removed while the price goes up. That is value subtracted.
