Random 335i coolant temp light and limp mode

So I was on my way to work today enjoying some spirited driving on the first sunny day in two weeks, cars running amazing as usual... I pull off of the parkway and stop on the off ramp to then merge onto the local road. The car moves about 10ft into the lane and goes COMPLETELY limp. My first instinct was I was living my own HPFP story as I am sitting in a 50mph lane doing 5mph....

I get a yellow coolant light on the dash which quickly goes red and i hear the fans blowing louder than a twister. The car is now sitting in a parking lot by work waiting to get towed to BMW.

The car was a few K miles out of the time to opt in on extended warranty so I had no option for that, and it is not CPO. \

Anyone ever have this happen before?? I am fearing needing a new water pump but this car has been running AMAZING for the past three months that ive had it including some spirited runs down windy local roads and not had a single issue (other than mechatronics seal but thats another department)...

So much for reliability.....

I had the same exact thing happen to me. the yellow temp light came first...then all of sudden, the light turned to red and the car stopped moving. I had the BMW road side assistance to tow the car to the nearest dealership to get it checked up. They are replacing the traditional water pump to electric water pump for me. seems like my engine fan at the time of occurence was not working at all, which might be the reason causing the overheat.

Man...so sad that 335 is not realiable. Not sure if I should trade it in or seel it for a more reliable one.

Same thing just happened to my 330. But I caught it before the red and was able the next day to drive it froma cold start to my local indie where it cost me $425 pump, $120 thermostat, $20 BMW antifreeze, $191 labor. Best to do the thermo while all the stuff is apart, preventive maintenance. My car has 42k miles. So the cooling system is not too reliable.

I had a similar issue. Did not fix mine yet. Mine only overheats when the heater is on, also the radiator fan goes from high to low every couple of seconds when the heat is on.

You would think newer electronic pumps would be more reliable... at least I get my down pipes installed for free... sort of
