I hate you Runflats and Potholes.. so much
I was driving home from NY last night after work at around 1 am and was getting on the Van Wyck and I see this MASSIVE Pothole, at least 3 feet wide.. I'm on the on ramp and there's Jersey Barriers on both sides of me so I have literally nowhere to go.. so I slow down as quickly as possible and move to the right a little to hit the smallest part of it, and WHAM.. hardest hit I've ever felt.
So i keep driving, it feels fine, no vibration etc. Then about 10 miles later... my light comes on. So I pull into this citgo to check them, and wouldn't you know, both the front left and rear left are, by this time, completely flat... I try to put air in, but no dice. I can see a huge gash in the rear tire and the front one I can smell the air just coming out as soon as I try to put it in... I also think the wheel on the rear left is bent. BMW Told me they will require me to replace all 4 because the tread life on the other two is bad as well... Are you kidding me, this is going to be about 1600 bucks when it's all said and done IF they don't charge me for the wheel repair / replacement. Anyone know of any options I have? Can i throw on some cheaper Run Flats on all 4 myself, and just turn it in? |

Bad luck with that. Check with your insurance, I've heard they extend their coverage to wheels/tires in certain circumstances.
But why are you saying you hate the run flats? I imagine if you had conventional tires, they would have blown out immediately and you would have been left stranded on the side of the road, or worse, you could have been spinning out of control and into all kinds of trouble. |

Unfortunately, unless it's someone that lives within driving distance of me, I don't think purchasing from a forum member is an option, as the car needs to go back Monday when I pick up my new 328xi coupe, this one is part of the lease pull ahead. I think I might just have to bite the bullet, let BMW Assist flatbed it in to BMW of Bridgeport, and pay whatever they charge.
Unfortunately I think they're going to hit me for 4 tires and likely a new wheel + tire pressure monitor. Man what terrible timing. |

Start up a thread in Classifields section, maybe you will be lucky to find a set close to you, is the bent visible? Sometimes bent rims are unnoticeable and they dont affect ride quality

I feel your pain man. I drive on the Van Wyck all the time. It seems like it doesn't matter if you are driving 10 mph or 40 mph over a pot hole. It sounds like an explosion went off. I think the BQE is the worst roads in the tri-state area. Freaking BMW of Westchester did not offer the tire insurance so I am trying to be careful. Good luck man.
