http://www.getbmwparts.com/ to get the plugs.
http://www.n54tuning.com/index.php?_...d&productId=89 PHPSESSID=bac3ead577b2991ebad74944932ad13f for the socket tool. I paid $456 at a dealership in Toronto, still feel sore from it. NEVER again. Your $280 quoted is not that bad, plugs alone are about $120 USD for 6.... + about 1.5 hours worth of labour Last edited by KCX_335xi; 09-12-2011 at 02:51 PM.. |

I hit 82k, my service says I should have gotten them done after 80k. I was wondering if I should get them done now or later on (around 100k)? Also, are OEM the best ones to go with? thanks

OK, now listen about spark plugs. You can buy the EXACT SAME PLUG as the dealership from www.rockauto.com for $10.00 a piece. That is a total of $60.00. This is a 30-45 minute job for the FIRST TIMER at the most. DO NOT waste your money at the dealer! Yes, they stencil "BMW" on each plug, but it is still the same plug! My dealer quoted me $560.00 for a change on a an E90 non turbo. I have been working on cars for 30 years and this, by FAR, was the EASIEST car I have ever worked on! You can even get to each plug with a torque wrench and put 30 NM of torque on each plug. Make sure to check the inside of the boot that connects the direct ignition to the plug, I had some corrosion that I removed with very fine sand paper and a small flat head screw driver. Also make sure to use a SMALL about of Dialectic grease on the inside of each boot and a tiny bit on the white base of the plugs. If you are confused about how to do everything, go onto ebay and purchase a dvd or cd manual OEM BMW that can be loaded onto your computer, which gives you step by step instructions on how to do this. EASY EASY EASY job!

Is the special spark plug socket removal tool really necessary or any deep thin walled socket will do? I have a socket from Princess Auto which has a thinner wall in comparison to the Mastercraft Maximum brand. I think that should do the trick.
