not as much as you'd think... probably only from more spirited driving styles because of the power increase!

A system like the twinscrew for the ZHP E46....would certainly keep me in mine a little longer.

What a sleeper

This place while it may seem unlikely, may be able to develop a bolt on supercharger. They do prototype tuning for manufacturers all the time. They did my supercharger on my '97 Vette.
The reason I am suggesting them (they do look like they only work on domestic V8s) is I saw a highly modified Ferrari 348 with twin-turbos on it being tuned by them. There was a place in Texas that built the system, but they couldn't tune it. Motec suggested they go to these guys. They've had people come as far as South Dakota if I remember correctly to have work done.

If you're serious about doing this, give them a call. They can only say no.

Here's a place that claims if it has an engine - they can put a turbo on it.

They're located in Seattle. Like I said, I'm not interested in doing it, but if you're serious then someone should contact them to find out. They do have a white e90 on their website with some funky exhaust.

330-Possible Turbo or Supercharger

In response to this question, I asked VF engineering if and when they're produce a supercharger for the E90 and they replied next year they'll start a kit. So there is hope at the end of the rainbow

It's about time I think. Mosselman a company in Europe well know for e46 superchargers is in Development on a SC for the e90 platform, but who knows when its going to be done.

I can't wait to see what numbers our cars with superchargers in them throw down.

I wrote an email to VF Engineering over a year ago and they told me it was under development. That's a long time to develop a SC. I think they are feeding us a bunch of BS.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this (especially based on how long it's taken these guys to "develop" the superchargers with no definitive date). It costs quite a bit to develop a supercharger and the company needs to look at the potential market size for sales. It may be too expensive given the actual number of people willing to bolt the supercharger onto their car.

That being said, I'm not sure our engines are strong enought to take FI. We have a different engine than the 335. BMW has beefed up the 335 engine where it's needed for FI. I think we're looking at issues with longevity even at low boost.

IMHO: A better idea may be intake, full exhaust, tune and cams. This should yield close to 300hp or more without the FI longevity issue.

I dont think the issue is that can it stand up to boost....I think the main issue is cracking the code on double vanos and second generation valvetronic. I believe the reason the offer the N52B30 based on the older block is because of dollars not boost.

Installing a cam is kind of silly as the car already has variable valve timing....lift and duration are both adjustable capable of infinite combinations.

This snippet from Road & Track best describes double vanos

Although with more elements, BMW's Valvetronic qualifies as state of the art in continuous cam-shifting. Teamed with cam-phasing of its VANOS (or, for both intake and exhaust valves, double-VANOS), the two systems offer continuously variable — and independently configured — timing and lift.

Valvetronic interposes a second intermediate rocker arm between each camshaft lobe and its intake valve. Lift is continuously variable by shifting the orientation of this intermediate element through its contact with an eccentric shaft.

In fact, so effective is this in defining the engine's breathing that BMW can dispense with the traditional butterfly throttle. This in turn offers the advantage of reduced pumping losses (those incurred on intake stroke with a closed butterfly). BMW says Valve-tronic is worth a 10-percent reduction in fuel consumption. Introduced on the 316ti 4-cylinder, the system is gradually finding its way into many of BMW's engines. (Even the new Mini has Valvetronic!)

Complication — its several rocking elements and necessarily strong springs — limits efficiency at high rpm. Valvetronic M isn't likely. But, at the moment, it's variable-valve timing's state of the art.

From a marketing perspective BMW is right on ....dont show your full hand early in the game....this creates a demand give consumers a taste of the balance & feel of the car...then relase the "good stuff"

...think how many people jumped from the 330i to the 335.

agreed however my guess is the "tune" part is whats holding EVERYTHING up. cant tune the engine = no SC. and if they WERE able to tune it i think we'd have at least seen an ecu upgrade for them by now.

Does anyone knows how long it took for them to develop the SC for the E46 after the model first showed up around 2000? That might give you an idea on how long it might take if they are really working on something. I'm done hoping. I got my intake and some exhaust parts, Hamann mid resonator and Remus muffler, that's a start. No one has even developed a chip to tune the ECU. Active Autowerkes has a dead thread on the Sponsors NA engine parts section with a lot of questions and no answers. That right there tells you the kind of attention our NA engines are getting, which is none right now, and as long as BMW continues to make TT engines that are easier to tune, aftermarket tuners will focus on that due to the higher demand and low development cost.
