It’s literally just phantom grip with a washer added in that they pretend is a clutch. Just weld your open diff if you want to be cheap.

I get what you're saying, but if it doesn't grenade the diff I would be interested. At least this would be reversible, where welding the diff is not.

EDIT: Nevermind. The instructions say you have to grind the gears down a bit to install. Not interested.

The problem with the e90 is most have a welded ring gear. If you do, this is not a simple install as it requires the same machining to get the ring gear separated. With that much labor - you're better off just getting a real LSD.

grinding a tooth or two at the base of the ring gear is fine, and common practice when doing lunchbox lockers in solid axles.

in order to get the crosspin back in the carrier.

that's a chunk of the ring gear that the pinion never touches.

well, should never touch, if you've got a properly setup diff.

Does anyone on the board actually have this installed? It's so inexpensive but the language barrier, phantom grip reputation and lack of social proof are not helping

edit: just sent them an email... let's see if we can get one for testing purposes

It's only inexpensive if you have a bolted diff AND know how to do diff work. If you are missing either of those scenarios, it becomes a bit more expensive.
