E90 Xenon bulb replacement

I am confused. Looking to replace my xenon bulbs on my 2006 BMW. what manufactures make these bulbs that are direct plug and play? I see countless conversion kits for xenon, but not just the bulbs. I did find one for $89 but I read a few threads we can get them for under $40 for each bulb. If you can steer me into the right direction, I would appreciate it. I plan to replace both bulbs at the same time.

I believe OEM xenon uses D1S bulbs. You can get them in different colour temp as well. stock is 4300K if I am not mistaken.

I see nothing less than around $65 or so. Osram and Phillips/Sylvania are probably preferred.

I got a pair of Philips D1S 8000k off eBay for like $30 and worked gr8!

I was nervous that I'd lose brightness at 8000k but they are still bright as hell, just have a blue tint..

Beware of cheap bulbs tho.. there's a few people that had their ballasts blow because of that.. and it ain't cheap

^^ these should fit an e90 and these are some of the best "white light" bulbs money can buy. These guys are OEM for BMW from what I've been told

Probably 90% of brand name HID bulbs on ebay are fake. Amazon too unless "Shipped from and sold by Amazon".

theretrofitsource is a known reputable supplier for brand name HID bulbs, and their own store brand Morimoto bulbs are excellent value and quality as well.

I bought a Phillips D1S just last weekend from NAPA for $80. I didn't want to order one online until I made certain what bulb I actually had in the car. On Amazon it told me that the D1S was not the right bulb for my car. It's a lot of work to just change a frigging headlight in these cars. Especially the passenger side.

I order all my bulbs from powerbulbs.com

Changing the bulb is much easier if you take off the front wheel and front half of the fender liner. All the room in the world then, and you can actually see WTF you are doing with the upper clips on the bulb. What a PITA those are to get right.

I did take the wheel off and the front part of the liner off. I looked at a youtube on how to do it and it showed them doing it through the trap door, but my trap door came off from the bottom first and there was no way in hell to do that through the trap door.

I spent way too much time trying to do it without removing the liner, but there was no way on the passenger side. Then I had trouble with the clip, then with unplugging the bulb once the clip was lose. Unplug before removing the clip is the trick.

Paying $80 for the bulb was the least frustrating part of the job in my case. It took me two hours to change the thing. That included driving to the Auto Parts store and buying the bulb.

I sure wouldn't pay $900 to have it done though!

I bought Flosser bulbs. Paid 60 each. Looks just like oem.

My bubls would go out for a couple of days and then it'll be fine again for a while. Must be loose wiring I suppose.

Mine did this and it was the ballast for the side that would go out. If they are going out on both sides at the same time, probably not but it's worth mentioning.

Only my driver's side angel lights are going out. I think I replaced the passenger's side before. Who knows man. Car's got a mind of its own.
