flat tire symbol question.

Anyone get this symbol (in red) in their car sometimes and the tires aren't flat? what is that all about? You think my sensors are shaking loose and it thinks the tires are flat? All I do is reinitialize them and its fine again. Has happened 3 times over the past 4 months probably

I ride on 18 bmw wheels and RFT's if that helps at all.

Oh i didnt mention this but they are never actually flat...figured you guys would pick up on that.

Do you actually have sensors? My earlier build date 07 used the ABS system. It could just be the changing of temperature and its a tiny glitch. Or a sensor/s is/are going out.

It is saying your tire is under-inflated.

Interesting item though... I have an '07 335 and have had several flats (I know!), anyway... I had my software updated in the car on my last service visit, and I used to get a general tire low indicator but it didn't say which one. Last week the light popped on and it now tells me which wheel...pretty cool. The dealer said it was part of the update.

That's what it seems like. No loss of air, I have checked the pressure each time...I think they are shaking loose momentarily and that's when it throws up the symbol.

Did you just have your first cold spell? My old 325 would flash that every time the temp dropped over night, but once the tires heated up it would go off.

06 dont have sensor, it uses the wheel rolling diameter to determine if you have a flat or not, so in your case prob.

1) tire leaking air
2) extremely soft sidewall causing incorrect reading?
3) your tire wear is exceptionally fast, either you have a fast wearing tire, or you drift way too much, maybe try drive her a little more gentle

I just had a flat tire warning for the first time last week. Tires were all at 32 psi upon manual inspection.

It was probably the coldest morning we've had in Boston all year so it very well could have been that. I simply reset the tpms and the warning went away.

I was nervous though because a few days before I hit a pretty decent sized pothole. No pressure loss so far though. I hate the RFT's. Worst ride ever.

This just happened to me, but I also had recently replaced all 4 tires. Once I "Initialized" the system, everything worked fine. You may want to try the latter. The procedure should be in your owners manual.

And by system I'm referring to the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Ok this was happening to me too. The rim ended up being cracked. Have your wheels checked.

wow that's a lot of bad news...hope my rim isn't cracked...the wheels are my favorite part of the car.

like i said i just reinitialize and its good. i will just keep doing that. The tires still have a lot of tread, but the back tires have an inside "cut" to them the mechanic told me. And they cant be rotated due to the tire tread? whatever...my car runs im happy.

Just to follow up on this....since people don't seem to follow up on their questions once they get resolve.

I had a nail in my tire....it was really small and I finally saw it the other day...doh..stupid OCD.
