haha don't buy anything through bmw!!!!

Generally most items cab had 50% cheaper by buying bosch labelled parts through a parts supplier (for plugs/coils/batteries/02 sensors etc)

We always have plugs and coils in stock. Check the Advan service thread for the special price.

Under WOT, the car will jurk and the engine light came on.........it will then idle rough. Turn off the car and start again, the engine light disappeared and the car went back to normal. Check the code on JB4 software and it indicate Cylinder 2 misfiring. Get Advan to change the lot (plugs and coils). Misfire fixed!

Ah ok thanks. So you didn't try to eliminate one or the other and just changed both?

Also, how many kms on your car and how many kms since you last changed plugs? Trying to determine if I just need new plugs or coils too

I've got the same issue, in cyl #1. WOT misfires, rough idle, restart and okay. Have new plugs and a new coil on the way. Im at 96000kms and can't see evidence of plugs having been changed in my service book. Owned the car since 75000kms. From what I've read just a single misfire in one cyl is usually a coil pack issue but since I've got the engine cover off, may as well do plugs too since they are due

I was having misfires on bank 2 on 2 cylinders. Replaced all 6 coils at once (I prefer to do it this way, so all are performing in peak condition) and it was still not quite right.

My plugs were only 6k kays old ~ 8k kays use, regretfully i changed them and it made a huge difference for some reason! No more misfires and it was much more tractable at low revs. Just remember you need a bmw specific spark plug socket (thin wall type)

Yea, just trying to do some e-diagnosis for now. Just ordered a whole bunch of stuff from ECS including plugs and tool. Car is at 68ks now and I do not believe the plugs have been changed yet. Fingers crossed that's all it is.

R3N,

I bought the car a month ago with 70,000Km on it. The previous owner have a full service history on the car by BMW. Checked the service log book and cannot find any trace of spark plug replacement. I then decided to change all 6 plugs and Coils due to misfire (after JB4 installed)as it not expensive and give me a piece of mind. The car now drives very well now and love the extra power.

Its always best to replace all the coils and plugs at the same time,
you will save on labour and your time, do it the right way first time.

Yes you can play with a single coil / plug replacement but at the end of the day it will be a wast of time and money.

I got all my stuff from ECS and it arrived Monday. Installed 6 new plugs and 1 new coil pack on the misfiring cyl. Problem all fixed now!

On a more concerning note, I saw that the positive electrical wire connected to coil #1 had a damaged plastic insulation exposing a tiny amount of the wire. I stuck on some electrical tape to patch it, hopefully works

Did you find any oil sitting in the spark plug well? I kinda freaked out when i changed mine, but talking to a few other owners they also found a few drops in theirs also (most of their cars were a lot newer then mine also)

By memory mine was in cyl's 1,2, and 4

Yes I did find oil which scared me for a minute. Only in cyl 3 and by looking at the oil cap i can only assume that whoever did the last oil change spilt a bit and it went into the spark plug well. No traces on the plug itself past the thread towards the sparking end.
