Vibration from engine bay on idle

Hi,

Ive had my E91 320d Msport for about a year now and recently had the pullye changed. However there is a vibration on idle. Once the car is moving its fine. Is this a common problem? Do you think I am being a bit paranoid.

Any help would be useful. Many thanks

Which pulley? delflection? idler tensioner?
Have you checked all other pulleys? AC, steering pump, etc? Also the Alternator.

You can check by releasing tension and freeing the belt and spinning the pulleys ( with engine off of course) and if it spins freely and is rattly then it needs changing.

Alterntively turn on engine and place a large screwdrive next to the pulley and the noise will be amplified when you place your ear closest.

Failing all the above. Start to look and fan couplings, heat shields, exhaust mounts or possible clutch release bearing.

All the best

Thanks for the reply. . Ill check everything and let you know how I get on. I am thinking about selling the car as I might opt for the company car scheme, so I need the car running perfectly.

Seriously though

Does it change with the clutch engaged? Could be flywheel related..

It is common on all 320d from E46 though would like to know the answer as well.
My guess engine mounts, injectors. You can try to replace engine mounts if it will not help try using LIQUI MOLY Diesel Purge (professional)

If you will do that report back...

Good Luck

Noisy Engine cover and my paranoia. MOT passed with no issues too.. the pulley that was changed was the crank shaft pulley.
