There are TWO kinds of active cruise control, ie the cruise control with radar with can detect cars ahead.

The new 5 series has a better one; it can bring the car to a complete stop and basically works in stop-start traffic. This is "stop-and-go" function. The active cruise control in the 3-series has a minimum speed of about 30km/h. If traffic forces it below this speed a warning sounds and the driver needs to take over.

So in my case the dealer got confused between the specs of the active cruise control between the 3 and 5 series.

Seems clear enough to me. It would take some getting used to with the stop and go version! I would be worried the first few times that it slowed me down!

Even the 3-series cruise control without stop-and-go can give you some major braking if the traffic slows down in a hurry in front of you.

To be honest, unless the car was driving itself for me 100%, I doubt I would just allow the cruise control to slow me down. I would have tapped the speed down myself long before that whilst cruising on the motorway. Otherwise you may as well have your eyes closed!
