Meguiar's NXT wash or Gold Class wash?
As the topic said, has anyone had any experience with either of these shampoo's and can tell me a little about them? I'm interested in hearing which one is the preferred one.
Thanks!

Most folks on Autopia seem to prefer the NXT wash, since it contains no wax, and water softeners. Gold Class has some wax in it, which can interfere with sealing.

Everytime I've used Gold Class, my wax has been stripped, so I was forced to rewax it afterward, not sure if my experience is reflective of others though.

sinnet112 - two things. If the wax is actually bring stripped it could be that you're using too much soap. If you aren't, it's possible what is happening is the gold class is leaving it's own protection behind, which would may bead/sheet differently, and make it seem like it's removed your wax. Either way, there are better options.

picus: what are some "off the shelve" products (ie. in Canada like Canadian Tire) do you recommend if we just want to get rid of some swirls and a nice sealant/wax? A lot of people like NXT wax, but whats your take?

ehhwik, I use to use Mother's Reflections before I began buying products online, and I liked it better than Meguiar's Gold Class wax.

For a good shampoo I use Meguirs Deep Crystal from CT in a Black Magic bucket w/grit guard with their simoniz sheepskin mitts (cut off the tag). The problem you run into at this point is their microfiber sucks, so grab a good microfiber waffle weave towel from an online vendor like eshine.ca or carcaresmart.com. If you want to hide some swirls at that point you can use some Meguars liquid NXT tech wax (really a sealant that helps hide swirls). Or you can pick up a decent sealant online. |

so you feel Meguiar's NXT wash is behind other shampoos? can you suggest any? i've tried P21s shampoo, but it didn't sud enough for me and i felt like it wouldn't clean all that. did smell lovely though, and was easy on the hands

I used to have gold class and wash the family cars...however I wouldn't use it on a zaino'ed car.
For example, black 2000 Caddy Deville, wash it and it looks good. Wait til the next day...you go out and notice pollen all over it. The Gold Class seems to attract pollen!

this is all great info guys, thanks a lot. i've recently washed my car using the NXT wash, it was nice to work with and removed dirt without much hassle. i'm interested in seeing if it attracts dust etc.

I have been using the Gold Class shapoo. I use about 2 capfuls & some change with about ~3 gallons of water.
Thus far the wax has held up well....I wash once a week or more often if its been particulary dirty. I am close to wash, claying, and waxing again....I am considering the NXT Wax (or protectant). Take some pics and post when done...I'de like to see the results. |

I might suggest using Zaino wash and sticking with zaino products from wash to wax. Some products to buff the car and even wax if you do not wish to use zaino - 3M makes some excellent products.
Concerning the wash - I have used Gold Class in the past and think it is an excellent washing agent. I do prefer P21s a bit more ...as the waxy buildup from Gold Class is ...well like someone said, don't use it if you have Zaino on the car...it will take it off, but it will not harm the finish at all. Gold class is a nice shampoo. P21s won't strip any wax that might be on the car, but it does not foam or lift dirt quite like Gold Class. Zaino's wash does not foam much, but again it is meant for a car with Zaino wax/sealent and these cars won't need a strong wash to lift the dirt. I don't know this NXT of which people speak...sound familiar, but i can't place it. You can't go wrong with any of these wash soaps. Do not use Gold Class on a zaino'd car - you can use P21s, but I recommend zaino wash. Always wash by hand - see autopia website for tips on avoiding swirls - such as washing while paint surface is cool and not in sunlight. Dry the car in your garage/shade - do not apply wax in a circular motion - always in straight lines up/down the panel/s. I would recommend sheepskin or microfiber washmitt - I buy all my products from topoftheline.com To avoid touch the paint as much as possible I initially dry the car using a squeege device, "california blade" sort of thing. Then dry with microfiber cloth, remaining surfaces. - Always with a light touch. Ok i'm blabbering on, i used to run a detailing shop and get carried away when talking about all of this. Use zaino ...best polymer sealent (wax) out there imho. - baby soft. |
