By the way did anyone finally rent a race car last time, if so what car and how much was it?
Was it worth it?
Just thought that it would be nice to torture some other car too beside your own for a while.

One of the guys was going to rent a car from www.rent-racecar.de , but the excess for him was 10,000 Euros so he chickened out!!

The excess actually varies, depending on the experience of the driver and the person who's actually running the hire desk at rent-racecar.de at the time! I've had friends rent a car with only a 3000 Euro excess... it all depends! The only way to find out is to phone them directly and negotiate a deal.

No, the DTM is held on the F1GP circuit, and doesn't affect the Nordschleife nor the Touristenfahrten days. There will be more people in the local area, hence why the hotels are booking up earlier, but this doesn't translate to more people being on the Nordschleife. The DTM crowd are too busy watching the qualifying, support races, and the race itself!

It does mean that I'll have to get the Pistenklause booking in a bit earlier though!!

Oh and for those of you who don't mind taking the ferry I can get you great rates on the crossings too.

Package with ferry crossing is £209 (based on driver and car) Let me know via pm if you are interested
This sounds good if more are interested!

It would be nice if the interest was made public as opposed to via PM, just so that I know how many people are likely to be coming on this trip ??

A regular P&O Ferry from Dover to Calais takes 90 minutes.
A Norfolk Line Ferry from Dover to Dunkerque takes almost two hours (according to their website), but as Dino says is 30km closer to the 'Ring.

Eurotunnel takes 30mins from Folkestone to Calais

Also if you have a really low car (like mine) the ferry puts you on the lorry section and you are always first out of the ferry

It's never taken 2 hours when I've used Norfolkline, the longest it's been is 1hr45m. I've never been able to justify the extra expense of the tunnel. However if you go to the ferry websites they are quite expensive for these dates but not for me as I have a tour operators account hence why I can offer the guesthouse and ferry crossing package so cheap

That's a slight concern with mine - the M Sport front bumper is quite low - mine shows a few battle scars - maybe from ferry loading ramps or speedhumps? How have you guys with M Sport cars got on with ferries etc?

There hasn't been an issue with ramps etc on the Eurotunnel.. haven't taken a ferry for about six years so wouldn't know !!! I can't see there being a problem - as Dino says, if the car is very low then you go on the lorry section...

No way your E90 can be as low as my e36 with it's GT front splitter - it's about 2 inches off the ground!

I know, I know (I was waiting for a comment as such lol) but I'm *aware* of the small amount of underbody 'scrapes' on the lower front on mine.......

I had Hamman Splitters on my E60 M5, and it was very very low and still cleared the ramps on the Eurotunnel. Just drive very slow.

£209 is not much cheaper than Eurotunnel.
