Dash trim
Hi,
Thinking of getting my dash and centre console trim wrapped (currently brushed silver) but have reservations...... I'm debating either gloss black or carbon colour but i am concerned that the interior will then be too dark as its an M Sport with black headlining and unfortunatley i dont have a pan roof Has anyone else had the same reservations or am i just fretting over nothing?? On the same token, does anyone have any thoughts - good or bad - about wrapping the interior trim? |

I was in the same boat a while back.
I now have a piano black trim with black leather interior and it looks great. The gloss finish of the trim against the leather does work. Last edited by Jedimindtrix; 05-30-2013 at 09:07 AM.. |

A work collegue of mine has piano black with black leather in hi 5 series and i love it!
Was your piano black trim fitted from new? Not sure how convincing a wrap of such would look though..... |

I'm off to view the vinyl tomorrow to see what it's like in the flesh.
I want to see how 'deep' the colour / shine is. If I'm honest, I'm still very concerned that the interior will become too dark once done The cars I've seen with it all seem to either have pan roofs that let plenty of light in or have light interiors already (tan or oyster leather)....... |

I'm starting to feel that brushed is a bit bland, especially as my previous BMWhas it too but like I said........ Concerned about the darkness!
Also read a lot about the gloss / piano black being a bitch for scratches but this may be more for the OEM trim than a wrapped one?? |

Hi Doc,
I like that - what is it, black CF? I see you didn't have door strips done, I was thinking similar in leaving those silver...... Good to see someone else think similar |

I'd go for carbon, but only if its real or at the very least laquered so it looks a bit more realistic.
I had it in my last RS4 and loved it, but the wrap on its own just doesn't look the same IMO. I've seen various cars with piano black trim and as nice as it looks, it gets marked very easily and will drive you crazy if you get finger prints on it! |

Not to me it doesn't. There are plenty of cars with totally black interiors.

As a solution get some black duck tape and place over the trim. Doesnt have to be neat as yr just judging the overall interior darkness. Then u can see frst hand whether u like it or not.

I had silver, and carbon dipped it myself at home and the interior is much better, really pleased with the results, more of a pain in the arse than wrapping, but if you are careful and paint/prep properly, its great, gradually doing more and more.

I wrapped my trim gloss anthracite. I wrapped the centre trim in 3m dinoc black carbon fibre, but wasn't happy with it. I then bought a genuine carbon fibre centre trim which looks far better. The main problem I had with the carbon fibre vinyl was it was very dull and not glossy. If you want to go carbon fibre, i would get your interior carbon dipped rather than wrapped.
Here's a quick phone photo of mine Here's some photos comparing genuine bmw carbon fibre trim and 3m vinyl wrapped trim. As you can tell, there's no comparison Last edited by DanTheManc; 06-06-2013 at 10:51 AM.. |
