Poor throttle response from a stop- normal??

I've noticed that my 328xi has a noticeably delayed response when I press the gas to get it moving from a dead stop. Its an automatic. Anyone else experience the same thing? Is this just normal for BMW's or could it be something I should look into?

Normal

Especially in regular Drive - it's slightly improved when in DS

If you want ot get rid of it go with a BMS Powerbox (throttle & slight tune remap), Sprintbooster (throttle remap only), or full software tune

The BMS & Sprintbooster are 'piggy back' devices that install inline with main computer that fool the computer as far as throttle opening so you get a much crisper response - and they work just fine to remove the lag. I use the BMS

For a full software tune, the entire software in your computer will be overwritten and changed up

Full tune is most $$ @ around $400-$500, while the others are around $275 new, cheaper if bought used on forum...

+1 that basically says it all lol.

Our cars use an electronic throttle compared to a conventional throttle cable. The lag is a result of this technology.

While true Spinz... it is more than this, for some reason this feature is designed in by BMW, who knows why?

Yes, it is a result of drive by wire with no mechanical connection - but BMW could easily get rid of it by changing the software algorithms that control the throttle.

I have driven other DBW cars that did not have this noticeable lag

Still nothing like good ole' fashioned mechanical throttle linkage though

Lol true, thanks for elaborating. And no kidding, drove my parents to the airport today in their 08 escape... I had forgotten what a real throttle felt like, basically floored it unintentionally off every red haha

Slightly off topic, has anyone taken the new F30's for a spin - is this still an issue or has BMW fixed it?

I just drove a rental car this week (a newer Mitsu Galant) and I couldn't believe how much more the responsive it was from a stop- to the point that I was spinning the tires because I was driving it like I'm used to in my 328.

Yea my previous car was an acura tl, also a dbw throttle, but the thought of a delayed throttle never occurred to me in over 160K miles in that car. This aspect of the BMW's is a real head scratcher to me.

I test drove an F30 335i sport last week, it gave me like 4 driving conditions eco pro, eco, D, and sport. Each one was different with the lag, on sport mode I couldn't tell if there was any lag since I only tested it for a few miles. But selecting was like tunes on the go.
