flashed myself the trans and 3 other modules.
I did mine myself the other day too; it is really straight forward with the step by step instructions, and the actual flash only took about 5 minutes.

Indeed, I'm getting my macbook setup with an XP partition to do some further coding, below is how I did this one.

So are those of us with "07's" with a build date of late 06 out of luck completely or is there a different tranny flash out there for us?

Special thanks to Cn555ic for taking care of this for me last night, remote from Brooklyn... All the hype is completely justified.

Before, being in S was a bit more aggressive, held on to gears a bit longer, etc., but wasn't a huge difference between that and D. Enough to be noticeable, but not super drastic.

Now the difference between S and D is like having two different transmissions in the car. As Cn555ic said to me during the flash, D feels like you're pulling one long gear. It is very sedate. You will be in 6th by the time you hit 40 mph. But it feels more comfortable because you actually come out of the hole in 1st until about 3-5 mph and immediately hit 2nd, 3rd, 4th. It is smoother, relies on gear more than torque to get the car moving, and feels right at home in a luxury car.

Move over to S and things get crazy in a hurry. Gears are held a long time, upshifts are faster, but not hard. It's not like bumping up line pressure in an auto and the 1-2 shift makes your teeth hurt. It's just bam, next gear, no rpm "flare" before the next gear, it just goes. I would imagine it's about as close to DCT as you can get in an automatic. The rev matched downshifts are probably helpful to someone that actually likes taking fast turns, but I prefer straight lines and not stuffing my car into trees. lol

By the way, this was on my 100% stock car. I can only imagine the effect on a modded car is much more pronounced. My JB4 is coming in soon, so I'm interested to see how they'll pair up.

If you're on the fence about this one... Do it.

Good write-up. I hope to have mine done as soon as my cable makes it here. I bet in D, gas mileage is a little better too, being that it gets you up in gears a bit sooner.

I'm assuming he unplugged his battery and reset his cluster.

Hey Rob, go find a newer valve body with the MCM/TCU. Install the ZIPKIT which replaces the valves with oversized valves and new springs. Should be a quick change. Then you can flash with the Alpina trans code.

Just flashed Sikh335 06 car last night with his upgraded transmission. He needs to put some miles on it before he can run it hard, but by next weekend we'll know if it was really worth the 518 rebuild. I think for most, the ZIPKIT and Alpina flash will take care of most HP/TQ related issues.

Got my trans flash done yesterday by Cn555ic and wow, what a difference! Thanks Steven! D mode is more sedate but S mode unleashes the beast more and runs smoother than before. Now I can't wait to flash the engine and pull more power through what is now a better trans. I'm so much happier now with my choice to go for AT.

Anyone put in a newer tranny into a 06 car? I sourced a transmission but want to make sure the swap is straightforward, and that it can easily be coded to the car. Then I could finally get the Alpina flash.
