Oil in intake - lots...
08 N54 with Dinan stage 2. On average I go through about 1 qrt of oil every 1000 miles or less. Piping around my intercooler shows oil at the connections and my tailpipes are very black. I removed intake manifold a while back to walnut blast and the intake was wet with oil. The valves were also very wet with oil and had heavy build up.
Would installing the RB PVC valve help reduce oil being sucked into the intake? |

Hate to say it, but sounds like your turbos are shot.
Neil EDIT: Forgive my brain fade, somehow I was focused more on oil usage than on the fact it was in the intake tract. Certainly it's normal to have some oil in the intercooler, but this doesn't explain 1 qt/1,000 miles. As others have suggested, I'd start with Rob Beck's upgrades pcv valve and a BMS occ. If that doesn't take care of it, there something more serious going on. Last edited by MDORPHN; 10-07-2014 at 08:04 PM.. |

How would a bad turbo cause excess oil in intake? The only thing I can think of is worn shaft allows oil to seep around and enter intake? If this were the case I would think turbo would contact housing and be making terrible noises.

haha so if your car is buring 1qt of oil every 1000 miles that MEANS YOUR TURBOS ARE SHOT! LOL
I think there are several reasons why a car burns oil. i wouldnt conclude that your turbos are shot if they are blown, i bet you wouldnt mind replacing them since u dont mind paying 1500 for a dinan flash tune lol |

Easy buddy.... I purchased car with Dinan tune and a gold BMW extended warranty. The car is actually in the shop right now getting valve cover gasket replaced but I know that's not where oil is going.
A shot turbo probably makes the most sense for the heavy oil consumption... calling the dealer now.... |

Gosh how can a turbo pour oil into intake ?!
If your PCV Valve is shot (constantly open), Its dumps oil into the rear turbo intake, OCC is inserted inbetween PCV and Intake tube to reduce intake oil vapors. You can replace w RB Turbo's PCV Valve which is metal compared to plastic OEM, regarless the purpose is to dump oil into intake .. there are some ppl on here who have by-passed this, Route a pipe to the ground and seal intake, some argue this and say the turbo suction is needed to suck oil vapors out of the engine, IDK, ... BMW did it for environmental reasons A shot turno can however burn oil into exhaust if seals shot, you'd see oil in downpipes if thats the case - I saw my rear ones leak oil into DPs when I ran boost pressure test, I changed to 5w-40 and that temporarily took care of that Last edited by 007_e350; 10-07-2014 at 03:26 PM.. |

I was burning about a qt every thousand. Changed my VCG and it's been 600 miles and I haven't burned anything yet. I wonder if the bad seal has something to do with the vacuum in the crank case. FWIW I also changed the rear turbo inlet check valve and installed rb pcv at 70000 miles but that never fixed my issue. I'm at 84000 now.

Gunked up intake valves are a normal result of having a direct injection engine.
Oil in the intercooler and charge pipe is a a direct result of not having an oil catch can. Valves should be cleaned every 30K miles and an OCC will prevent oil in the intercooler and charge pipe. PCV valve is another failure point as others mentioned. |

oil comsumption can be from: - VCG leaking - Oil filter housing/ cooler gasket leaking (check front area where belt is) - Rear Main seal (engine/Trans) - Oil pan gasket - check cyl compressions |
