What damage have you done on track

Hi,

Just wondering, what damage have you done to your car while tracking it, like stone chips on bumper or hood, pushed in front bumper?

I haven't tracked yet, but I'm hoping to.

Blew a fuel pump but that's expected. Saw a brand new Maserati crash into the walls at Infineon this weekend.

In DE it's usually pretty safe. The racers are where you see more contact/damage. It's just about taking it slow until you're comfortable and staying on the line.

Syndicate - nice to meet you this weekend! For the others that are interested, that Maserati he mentioned is depicted below. Totally sucks...

I slammed my E30 325i race car into the back of an Audi S4 once...under braking. It was the first accident of any type I have had since 1979..yes, you heard me right...1979. Long story...

Oh nice you got the picture of that Maserati. A total of 4 cars crashed on Saturday alone! I guess all the crazies were out.

So far I have only had major rubber scrapes up my hood from the ALMS races the week before. Those rubber chunks are major flyers.

Did have a friend plow into a wall though. Its very terrifying.

more or less totaled my Z4M coupe by hitting the barrier on the Ring with about 55mph. Really a shame but a lesson learned. Fortunately my insurance came up for the damage. Because of the high damage I sold the wreck and collected the money for the repair minus some amounts for not repairing it.

mufflers and flaps replaced after, ahem, 4-wheel-off excursions. rubber scratches on the hood, mirrors, roof (!). Lower grills destroyed multiple times. Nothing that cannot be fixed.

DEs are overall safer than driving from and to the event. Accidents do happen though and cars do get totaled occasionally although most accidents involve little damage. Track insurance exists for that reason. If you're going to go off, remember both feet in, and try to avoid tire walls and other cars! Most of the accidents I've seen are due to drivers trying to recover while having 2 wheels on the grass!

the tire marks on the car come off easily when polishing. Clay bar takes em off too but takes much much more effort.

when did the Maserati crash? after our hyperdrive I saw them driving and then left...i think they were still racing though...its funny cuz i saw the Maserati cruising most of the time with the F430.

this really scares me...I'm going to really try and take it easy on the track next time...I noticed the groups were pretty damn packed...I'm going to try and start of near the front of the pack again.

Yea I saw you slowing down as you just overtook my Z4 35i. Is warranty going to cover that fuel pump? Next time I am going to make it harder for you!

Yea I was WOT on the straights when the HPFP was giving out and it caused my cylinder switch to turn off. I just had to restart the car and it was fine, pump got replaced this weekend so I'm good to go and looking for the next time we meet

How did the motor blow? Just too much stress? I've heard of money shifts - I will have to be very careful on shifts!

What are the rubber markers? From marbles?

Do you get stone chips down the side? Maybe I could just tape a few key edges/bits of the front bumper, (love the driver here who has spectacular taping jobs).

Like others, I've just experienced rubber marks mostly on the front spoiler or leading edges of the hood. This is caused by debris from other vehicles. Yes, otherwise known as marbles. You will also get some stuck on your wheels. No biggie, they come off with a wash.

I occasionally use painters tape to minimize the marks. Best bet is NOT drive right behind a car with slicks. They seem to throw off the most. Also, when going AutoX, do not get close to the car in front as they shoot off pebbles at launch.

At the BMWCCA DE at Thunderhill last weekend in the first session, an M3 got two tires in the dirt on the approach to turn 6. I didn't see it, but a guy who saw it said the car over-corrected left back onto the track, spun around and went off the track, rolled once, landing right side up. Not a bad roll, but the C pillar was crunched in.

In the Oct PCA event in my area, an M3 was totaled on day 1 and a GT3 on day 2. Both front-end collisions with the tire wall on 2 medium-risk places on the track. The M3 sat on a trailer on day 2 waiting to go home. The GT3 was bought on the spot by a parts dealer and was trailered off within a couple of hours of the accident.

That's a lot of crashes. Were these while "racing" or with point by's only?
It seems many are from semi racing situation where you can pass anywhere and just hope the guy in front of you see's you.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
